Clicker I just got a clicker and did it w/emma w/the sit command and now she is scared out of her mind....she wont even come for a ummy.....now what? just keep at it? |
When you first get a clicker... Don't try to train anything else for a couple days. Just click and treat! Click and treat! Click and treat! That will give her the idea that the sound of the clicker is a GOOD thing! Once she gets that, then move to obedience training. If she is scared of the sound of the clicker, check to see if your clicker adjusts in volume. Mine has 3 separate settings for soft click, louder, and loudest. I set it soft to start, and it's plenty loud. If yours does not have an adjustment, you might want to wrap something around it to muffle the sound. Good luck!! You can also try "muffling" the sound of the clicker by cliking it in your pocket. :) |

You can use a ballpoint pen clicker to start. Just do a couple c/t's then put it away and try again a few hours later. Don't give up and use a treat that's really special. |
suprisingly i stoped for like an hour, then put it in a towl, then put a treat to her nose and she took it so i clicked, her ears went back but she was good. i did this for like 10 mins..now she is used to it and is actually responding well to it. |
If the clicker is to loud put duct tape on it to soften the sound. Try a pen click or tongue click anything till she gets good thing come with a click. Make sure you do not leave the clicker out as if someone clicks it and does not treat she will not be happy and you will need to start over again. Joy |

yes and she is doing just that now! Awsome, we are giving her training treats that i cut up to be about this big [ ] how many times should we do this a day? I did it for like 3 hours total last night. is that too much treats? |
Training can be just part of life as everything can be made a learning experince. I was told to get started to pick a TV show and train in the comerical breaks for that show and then stop for the day. I train every walk as well to practice close and come. One thing make sure you take the amount of treats out of the total aount of food you feed your little one in a day or you will get a puggy one like my girl. I added steamed green beans in with her meals so she feels full at supper and breakfast but she not gaining wei ght. Joy |

Wow, that's alot! I think you're going to burn yourself out and your pup is going to explode at that rate. :eek: I've read that 2 or 3 sessions a day of 5-10 minutes each is sufficient. Those training for special events have said their goal is 5 sessions a day of that length. |
