Scared of the RV airconditioner!! Hello Yorkie Talk friends. I need some advice on how to acclimate one of my dogs (the Biewer) to a loud air conditioner/heat pump in a travel trailer. This past year he was terrified when we went into my parents trailer when their air conditioner was on. He kept crouching and looked like he was trying to run from the sound. Our trailer at the time did not have an air conditioner so this was a first for us. We are going camping in February in our restored travel trailer which does happen to have an air conditioner/heat pump and you can definitely tell it is on. It sounds a lot like a loud bathroom fan when it runs. Anyone with an RV will probably know what I'm talking about. Any ideas on how to get him to start warming up to the sound? I went into our half bathroom in the house and turned on the fan and he began to cower and panic. I tried giving him a treat but he wouldn't move to come and get it. He will be 2 in April. Other than this fear of a loud fan noise, the only other things I have seen him cower at and run from is when my dishwasher runs (it is cheap and LOUD). He is not afraid of my vacuum nor my son playing the electric guitar so I am confused. I have 2 months to prepare so I'm very willing to follow whatever training plans those of you who have dealt with something like this could share. Thanks so much for helping with this and have a Merry Christmas! |
Can you get him to wear one of those thunder calming shirts? I would try that. Also time to get dog out more where there is lots of noise....in stroller or your arms--so he can acclimate better. |
I had not thought of the Thundershirt... that sounds good. Any ideas on introducing him into our "new" RV? We restored a 1965 travel trailer and added an airconditioner. We turned it on last week (without the dog in there) and realized that it is just as loud as the one in my parents RV so we are concerned for him. There is only 1 speed for heat and low/high for air conditioning. There is NO doubt that it is running ;). I may order the Thundershirt and also give him a few treats in there, but I'm open to any ideas on getting him acclimated. Thanks for the Thundershirt idea!! |
