Does my Yorkie sleep.. at all?!! I knowww, my question sounds stupid but I'm a new puppy owner. I've only had my little Hashie (short for Hash Brown, heh!) for 3 nights. She seems to be settling in well: no barkings or whining. I know that Yorkies are generally really alert and they hear everything. My puppy sleeps in the living room just outside our rooms. I would turn off the lights, sit there and watch her a bit, then say goodnight to her and come to my room. She doesn't bark or whine, so I think that she's probably already sleeping. But everytime someone opens a door (as soft as possible), she's there, watching and waiting??? Does she ever sleep?! |
Mine does the same thing. It seems like she is always awake. She settles down and is quiet at night and lays right with us, but the slightest sound and she is wide awake. But she's healthy and happy so I think all is well. |
Dogs have such heightened senses of hearing, smell, sensation of movement that they easily hear you awaken, sit up, get out of bed and approach, turn the doorknob and open the door and by that time, look as alert as if they never slept at all. Being natural predators, they are almost always on alert during sleep for sounds, motion, scent and their normal patterns of sleep have them awakening frequently, unlike the human sleep pattern. After hours of sleeping, it takes humans some time to re-orient ourselves to the wakeful state but most dogs can awaken quite quickly as they do it several times during routine sleeping. I'm certain your dog is sleeping and has ample time to awaken and anticipate seeing you by the time you get to her. |

I love the name Hash Brown. There must be a story behind it...? |
lol mine do that too! Think that's pretty normal when they are small. She'll grow out of that to a point. BUT, I can say you sure are lucky that she doesn't cry at night. ALLIE squealed at the top of her lungs for hours when I put her in her crate and turned the lights out. I wanted her to sleep in her own bed............but............she won! I couldn't stand the crying all night for weeks, so gave in. She now has a comfortable spot in her snuggle sac on our bed. lol We all have restful nights now. |
Thank you all so much for responding! I feel a lot better now because I really want my baby to get enough sleep. Quote:
