What to do in the winter? Help! Hello! Fall has just started here in Toledo. I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with Toledo, Ohio, but we have some nasty winters here - cold, windy, snowy, etc. My Stella :aimeeyork loves to go outside, but she already dislikes the rain. She doesn't mind when it's chilly because she will wear a hoodie or a sweater and she's fine. BUT...I'm unsure of what to do about the snow? She's a little bit. She's 4 pounds and will be 7 months next week. I'm not sure she will get much bigger. She will NOT use a potty pad unless she's home alone in her kennel. If I'm home and put a potty pad out, she'll tear it up, even if it's in a holder, and she'll potty in a totally different place in the house. - This is when it's raining that I do this. Any suggestions for the snowy and wintery weather ahead? Thanks!! |
Grab a shovel! My ZoE is potty pad trained, but she likes to go outside to play in the winter. I shovel a maze of paths in the snow for her to run along, if the snow gets too deep. |

When it is really cold, we bundle up and have shorter, more frequent outings. |

Wow and I though I was the only crazy lady who goes out to shovel a path for my babies in the winter. :D There will be times when the snow it so high that it covers the doggy door. OP, your pup is still young and will just need to get use to it. As long as you are there with him and encouraging her to do his business and praising him when he does he''ll get it . He just needs more training. I have four pups and I was outside in the rain, snow, wind all hours of the day and night. It was crazy cold at times but we did it. But I had to do whatever it took to get them trained. So, as long as she knows when and where to do her business she will and will also learn to do it much quickly in the cold weather months. You still have a few months, so get her use to all types of weather and to get her fully trained for outdoor potty time. :) |
My husband makes paths with the snowblower. |
Thanks everyone! |
