He marked the Hubby! So, this morning my husband had recently came back from the gym and was sitting on the floor. Our 7month old Yorkie, Mac, ran up behind him, threw up his leg and peed on him! This has never happened before and I'm not sure what it means. Is Mac saying the hubby belongs to him? Is Mac mad at him? He is trained to use a potty patch and rings a service bell to let us know when he needs to go out. And the hubby had let him out to potty a few moments before. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I worry? |
LOL.....sorry that I think it is snicker worthy! I don't have an answer to your question. Your post just made me smile! I am sure you will get advice that is a lot more helpful than mine! |
Caesar Millan says it is a sign of disrespect. I have been peed on at the dog park and I don't appreciate it one bit. |
wow what a lil stinker. i believe to me it is marking of ownership but maybe im wrong. cedric will mark his fathers chair and once his sneakers but never him himself. its a battle of trying to correct in a positive manner and also catching them in the act if he is marking other things in the house. you can always try a belly band if it is a habit. if its a one time deal i wouldnt worry so much. |

I just remembered Mac had done something similar once before. I took his rawhide from him one day as he hadn't eaten all day. He was too busy chewing the rawhide. I figured taking it would give him the opportunity to realize 'hey, I'm hungry.' Well, he ran around looking for it for a few minutes then ran back to where I was sitting and peed on the portion of my blanket that was hanging on the floor. In that instance, I took it as him being mad at me. He wanted his rawhide back! If this is anger or disrespect, we'll have to think back and figure out what my hubby did this a.m. that Mac did not like. Man, these pups have such personalities! |
My 7 month old male Yorkie has marked me twice already (he had only been with us about week, at the time of said incident), and both times we were standing in a crowd. It's funny now and thank goodness I was wearing shorts and flip flops, but at the time, I was mortified. lol He is now neutered and so far so good (fingers crossed) lol |
morgan has not lifted his leg on anything// keeping my fingers crossed |
My year old Chihuahua actually marked me before when I was sitting on the floor putting together bathroom shelves. I was just sitting there then next thing you know it i felt all warm on my back! |
I know that my male kitten marked my Ex's gym bag. Right inside it lmao . . . It is a sign that they are putting their scent on top of the others scent. It is a mark of dominance. |
This is too funny :) I don't think you should worry, but I don't know why they do it either :) Rufus never did it but when I was young we had a doberman and he marked almost everyone in the family :D My mom was the only one left unmarked. He marked me one morning when I was ready to go to school. I was so mad because I had to wash my leg, change my socks and shoes :D |
Thank you all for the responses! Feels good to know we aren't the only ones. I also think it's time to get him neutered. of course the hubs is totally against it. Now I'm off to search the forum for solutions for a picky eater. I'm starting to feel like a servant around here! LoL |
So far none of my dogs haven't done that, tho they have taken my dh's socks and ran out of the room when he was trying to get ready for work. |
Maybe he's saying your husband belongs to him. |
This reminds me of a funny thing that happened to my husband years ago. He had a doberman that absolutely loved him. He lived out in the country and one day he was out cutting wood and his dog was with him. He had to relieve himself, so he did so on the tree. Well, the dog thought this was a perfect time to relieve himself also, on my husbands leg! He couldn't move fast enough, and when he tells the story it is hilarious! |
I wouldnt put to much stock in what CM says. In Austria if anyone is caught using his methods they can be fined up to 15000 euro as he and his shows have been banned. bout time wish more countrie s would follow suit, some of his methods are down right dangerous. |

Fletcher has marked me 2x in his life, once when I was looking in the fridge for something to take to work for lunch. Another time when we were outside at my house and I was talking to a group of people, he just came over and peed on my leg/foot! Little brat. The only thing I can think of is he didn't like that my attention was not on him. But many other times over the years when my attention was not on him he has NO peed on me. So I don't know! |
Oh this topic has made me laugh! :D One of our rescues is a marking dog and when he first came the little sod hopped on the coffee table and marked my drink! In all seriousness marking can often be a worried behaviour, a way of avoiding conflict and the dog relieving personal tension. It is certainly not the dog trying to assert himself as the boss. That theory is far too simplistic. I agree with Austria, Sulamk - that man should be banned everywhere :thumbdown Quote:
