Specific Questions on a "Potty-Trained" Yorkie
 

I have a 5 year old yorkie named Daisy and we have had her since she was a few months old. My sisters and I had trained her to use a pee pad inside a designated area of the house when we are not available to take her outside, we don't mind mind, as well as to signal for when we are at home to take her outside. She was perfectly potty trained for a few months and then we got her a sister, Oreo, a shih tzu. We trained her as well and they were potty trained for a few months when........
Daisy started to have accidents at night on the lining of the tile and carpet. My parents got frustrated when it continued so we put up this gate.
My dad and I hate this gate and after 3/3.5 years we have taken it down. I have cleaned the area with vinegar and baking soda on multiple occasions and she doesn't have any accidents during the day, gate or no gate, they go on the pad or tell us when they want to go out and we take them out. They get to go out first thing in the morning, multiple times during the day, both times when they are fed, and once late at night right before bed. Oreo, the shih tzu never ever has accidents but our Daisy does in the middle of the night.
Help please!

Daisy is only doing this at night? Is the pad in a spot where she can see? Is the pad clean enough for her? Peanut will stop going on his pad if it has too many pee spots. You can make sure she empty’s her bladder out before bedtime. That will usually help.

I have the same problem with my 6 year old male. At night I notice he will pee to the side of it on the floor. During the day he doesn't do this, only at night… I’m not sure what is up with him. It is pretty dark in our room, so I’m going to get a nightlight and put it right next to his pad- hopefully that will help~

Ooops, nevermind... completely different situations from the problem Minnie had peeing at night.

Thanks for the feedback! I will try to add a night light at night, it is pretty dark at night to see if it works! Although, if she has no trouble finding the carpet she shouldn't have too much trouble finding her pee pad, lol. :)

Well from what I have been told, when they are pad trained it is hard for them to know the difference of a pad and carpet, rug, bathroom mat.. etc.

Hmmm, I'm just not sure what to do. She is still going on the carpet every night and only at night. Sigh, I guess the only option now would be to crate her at night? They have no problems during the day. always use their pee pad or call to be let out. It's only once a night and it's driving my parents nuts. We really don't want to crate her but do you think this is the next best option at this point?

What are you cleaning the carpet with? If you aren't getting all the odor out, dogs tend to return to the same spot.

Another option might be to just break down and get some good quality, washable pee pads for that area.

I've been washing all the stains with vinegar and baking soda. Do you have any recommendations for washable pee pads?

Is it possible to put a large decorative plant, small table or some other object in the area where she has peed so at night she would not be able to go in that area. Eventually she will change her habit and go on the wee wee pad that is close to the night light.

What about crating her at night. My boys are crated at night, with their crate next to my bed. It helps to stop the midnight pee run, they hold it until morning. Or what about a small play pen next to your bed with their bed and pee pad.

After you've cleaned the area, you need to treat it with something like Nature's Miracle. You could also try a "no mark" spray on the area.
