I know . . . Another one I know I know . . . someone else with another potty training thing. I just want to cry. I know sounds silly. My sister (we do not live close to each other) called me up and was telling me how great her puppy is doing potty training. She is so excited. Me . . I cleaned up pee earlier. The worse part is since her pup came home at 7 weeks he wants to go out and at 9 weeks tomorrow he is holding it all day. (I know don't get me started on the going out at 7 weeks) He does great and then he pees in the crate or poop on the floor. He doesn't right at the moment try to tell me he has to go out. I just watch the signs. I do understand that the puppy on Monday was 24 lbs. and Galen is only 3 lbs 10 ozs. I also know that these little ones are hard to potty train. But I feel like I am failing. Oh by the way . . . My sister got a Neapolitan Mastiff puppy |
Ok now, dry your tears and know that all the rest of us either are or have been where you're at! There's no way in He-- that you can compare your beautiful baby to a Mastiff! What are you think there girl?? Princess Sophie still has accidents. She's about the same age as your baby, I thought, so I don't think there's anyway you should be feeling down. If I remember correctly, someone posted (a while back) that it can take as long as a year, or longer, to completely potty train a yorkie. I happen to think that if they hit the pad once in a while, we're doing pretty good. LOL Stop beating yourself and realize that Mastiff probably has a bladder bigger than our yorkies! That should put it into perspective for you! **HUGS** |
Neapolitan Mastiff are such gorgeous animals . . If I only had a larger home and yard !! Have you taught Galen the come and sit commands ? Those two commands paired with "lets go outside and go potty" work wonders. It is how I have trained all of my pups. No matter where I am in the house they will come get me to put them out. They come to where I am sit down and stair at me. The two girls Miah & Brandi will even bark at me. Quincy will too sometimes when he really want to go out, normally when one goes they all go. Ruby never barks but she has this intense stair and will not move until you get up to put her out. Even if I'm asleep on the couch I can feel her staring at me . . . wakes me right up! |
I feel your pain. We will do great for days and then, ugggg! Today was an ugg day. I have to go back to work in two weeks. I am so sad that they are not trustworthy yet. So Barney and Anna will be confined to their playpen. Fortunately it has been a poop and pee free zone so far. But I would be much happier leaving if they had run of the house. I have no advice, but you are free to cry on my shoulder. Just watch out because I may be crying on yours also. On a different note, thank goodness your sister's dog is potty training so quickly. Can you imagine cleaning up that poo??? |
Thank you for letting me cry lol I know he is little and I shouldn't compare them but I spend all this time with Gaeln. And my sister doesn't. She shouldn't have it so easy dang it ! lol We are signed up for training. I wanted to go to basic training. But they are putting us in puppy training. They said it was safer for Galen. Last time they had basic training there was a GS, two pits and a toy poodle. They kicked the lady with the toy poodle out. It was not safe for her. I hung bells on his xpen and on the front door. I am saying go potty and ringing them. Then I pup harness on him and go to door and say want to go potty and ring bells |
I'm still here too Teri! Jasper is going on 7 months and I'm still cleaning up pee sometimes. He has the poo down at least. Not sure what the whole house full of new carpet and flooring is going to change...I just up he doesn't go backwards. How old is Galen? He so cute...can't get mad at him. Lol |
He is going to be 9 months on the 6th. I am so glad I have others that really understand. He also looks bigger then he is with his hair. My vet thought he was 5 lbs when I saw him. But when he put his hands on him. He goes your a little guy. lol I wish he would tell me he has to go. He just does it. |
I too feel your pain when it comes to how difficult it is to train yorkies..lol...Wallee is 16 months old and..although fully trained to ask to go outside to poo, he will not give up his pee pads. If we go out and leave him he just sleeps..Pee pads are always down but he never uses them and is eager to go outside when we come in. When we are home during the day and he is up and playing, he will just run over and use his pee pads any time he feels during play. (He will even use them within half an hour of a long walk outside). I tried moving them towards the door but he would have none of it..He would just go find a new place to pee on the carpet..So, we have resigned ourselves to always having pee pads between our dining room table and the hutch. If it means keeping our carpet from being steam cleaned every other week then it is worth it..lol...and I guess the good part of it is that when the weather turns really bad again, we only have to worry about getting him outside a couple times a day for a poo. ;) |
ARRRGGGGGHHHHH!!! lol So I took Cookie out three times today and got three pees and a poop outdoors, but then about 45 minutes ago she went and peed on the carpet. So I took her outside for 20 minutes immediately after and got nothing. No more than 15 seconds after I brought her back in she squatted down and peed on the $@%#ing carpet again! |
#@!$ Cookie just peed on the floor 10 seconds after I brought her in! Every once in a while she has a really naughty day like this. |
Don't wait for signs. Take him out every hour on the hour during the day. Take him out last thing at bedtime and first thing in the am....carry him outside. Don't stand there...walk around with him as walking stimulates them to go. |
Oh man, 4x inside today. I have taken her out so many times today and come up empty virtually every one, only to have an inside pee within the first minute of coming in 3 times now. This is the most frustrating potty day I have had! It's like some days she just decides she isn't going to go outside. :( |
So far we have had a good day ( knock on wood.) I got up at 5:15 and woke him up to take him out. I carry him out always. I take him out at about 11:00-11:20 before bed. Went well. I went back yesterday to giving him a Cheerio every time he goes potty and I say good pee pee or poopie. Sometimes he gets two ;) After he goes today he looks up at me like I did it ok where is my Cheerio ! I gladly gave him. Hey if that makes him go outside then I got a whole box just for him. My biggest problem is waking up in the morning. Him peeing in crate. And during play time. Sometimes he runs off and by the time I get to him he pees. Spine surgery sucks lol |

Play time is the wore, you just never know when it coming. Its best to take a break after every 15-20 mins and take them out or to the potty pads. Definitely after every play time. Sure hope your feeling better Teri !! {{HUGS}} :) Sound like Cookie needs some major help, I'm not sure if my techniques will work for you but please take a look at my web site. You will find many tips on training that I've used for my pups with great success. There is some info on the leash training but you may need to do a bit more research on the proper way to use that. |

I'm going to try pee pads in the home to see if I can get her to use them to stop the accidents in between our outdoor trips. She was trained on pads and the doggy door when we got her at 14 weeks (she's almost 19 weeks now), so hopefully it won't take her too long to pick the pads back up. |
