Help me! My Yorkie is turning mean! 2 Attachment(s) This is my first post although I joined several months back. I have two female Yorkies Sophie age 2 and Holly 20 months. I got them both as puppies and when I got Sophie my first Yorkie ever I was instantly in LOVE! I took her everywhere with me including to work so that she would be bonded well and would potty train easily as well as not be alone all of the time. When she was 7 months and learned every trick I knew how to teach her I thought "what a special breed, I want to get her a sister". There comes Holly just about Christmas time and small enough to fit in a coffee cup and I was really in love. Well fast forward to now, they have a luxurious 4x4 pen that has their potty box, heated bed, food and water in. This has been their accommodations since Holly came home. But recently Holly has been viciously attacking Sophie over EVERYTHING! Food, the bed, any toys that are drug in there literally everything. I dont know what to do because Sophie is my #1 love but I cannot tolerate Holly being aggressive towards her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you! |
Wow, that really sounds bad. I'm afraid I can't offer advice but I can bump your thread so others get a chance to see it. Good luck, I know there has to be a solution to your situation. Blessings! |
Have they been spayed? sometimes females will get aggressive when one is in heat.. |
My two girls get along well but they don't love each other all the time. Ziva was two when we got Abby and took quite a while to accept her. Abby is now two and a few months ago she started giving Ziva a hard time- sometimes in jealousy-sometimes we don't know why. They have free run and their own crates and beds. Abby gets time out in her old puppy ex-pen when she gets ugly with Ziva. I find if they get plenty of exercise(they walk on a joined lead) and playtime the incidents are infrequent, but give us a rainy day and we will have a few skirmishes. |
Just want to say they are both beautiful! My girls get along great and I have so many pictures of them cuddling together. It sounds like Holly is jealous of your connection with Sophie! I would get them separate pens when you are not able to supervise them. You would not want an injury to happen. Feed separately and give each equal amount of attention. If a battle erupts, remove them to their areas for a time out.....both of them. I am thinking if Holly gets a timeout and not Sophie, it might make the issue worse. This is just my suggestion.....someone with more experience will hopefully give you better advice. |
I agree that exercise helps a lot. I have 2 teens that get pretty feisty with each other sometimes. That's when I know I've been slacking with the playtime. Taking them on separate brisk walks really helps. Good luck! Your girls are adorable! |
A 4x4 pen really isn't that big for 2 grown Yorkies. You might want to consider a second area to keep them separate when you aren't there to supervise them. And I second the exercise. These girls might be small, but they are still terriers at heart and need to burn off that energy. |
