Help! Does anyone know possibly WHY Miley pee's laying down on my bed?! She doesn't get up and squat like she does when she normally goes potty. She literally lays down and pee's like she doesn't wake up or anything she just pee's. I don't understand why she does this. She hates not sleeping in bed with me but I'm also sick of washing my sheets so often. She was doing well this past week. I would put her in bed after she pottied and then get her up in the middle of the night to potty. She's not doing so great anymore. |
Does she still have the UTI? Does she do it during the day? The only time I've ever had a dog do that was when my poodle was on water pills, so I'd make sure it's not medical. I'd consider getting diapers for her at night, my poodle wore them the last year of her life. Also, get something waterproof to put over your mattress if you don't have one already. Lola has never peed in my bed, even when I first got her and she was sleeping in a tote (with a pee pad) in my bed. I was getting up early in the morning to let her go potty and then going back to bed, now she has pet steps so she can get on and off by herself. She'll typically pee about 4 spots and poop once in an 8-10 hour period at night. |
I was going to ask about the UTI, too. When they act out of the norm on peeing, that's the first thing I wonder about. With that said, Mandie peed on my bed one time. Just up and did it. I think she was "pissed" at me at the time lol. She never did it again, though. So, yeah..how's her UTI? |
Her UTI seems to be cleared. She hasn't been showing any of the symptoms she had before with it. If she got up and squatted on my bed I never saw it which makes me believe she was on her side laying down when she urinated. This potty training thing is almost impossible :( it's so discouraging. |
May I ask how long she's been peeing laying down (has she always done this)? Does she pee only in her sleep (IE: the urge to pee is not waking her up) or does she pee laying down even if she's awake? Have you asked your veterinarian about this behavior to see what he/she suggests? How long did she have her UTI? If it went untreated for too long, it can cause scarring in the bladder, which would cause it to be unable to hold urine as a healthy bladder would...signs of this are peeing in strange positions and places...they have a hard time holding it. This is a useful read: Urinary Incontinence in Dogs: Causes, Treatments The only way to find a definitive answer is to take her to the vet and demand answers. :) |

Is she asleep when she does it? I'm curious if puppies can be like children that can wet the bed in their sleep??? Bless your heart, Courtney...she will eventually grasp it. But I've had strangers stop me and talk about how long it took to housetrain their yorkie..:( |

That is so strange for a puppy to pee in her/his sleep, isn't it? Have you told the vet she wets the bed in her sleep? That's how I would word it, too. Jasper still sleeps in his kennel by my side of the bed at night. He will pee on the bed occassionally and has pooped on it once  All I could do was take him to his pee pad and then put him in his crate for about 20 minutes. Take him out and take him straight to his pad. But now I'm scared he will pee and/or poop on the bed at night. It really is sad, too because I really want him to sleep with us. But I don't want to wash king size linens everyday. You know?? He was 6 months old last week. I thought he'd be completely trained by now. But I am patient. And so is my DH. How old is Miley now? |

Its pretty strange, I would have her checked to see if she is still having UTI issues. If an UTI affect them in the same manner it does us, it could be that it hurts her to move so she just lays where she is when she needs to go. I would also suggest taking her water up earlier in the night to allow her plenty of time to empty her bladder before bed time. You may even want to set your alarm and get up with her at least one time during the night and take her out potty or to her potty pad which ever you normally take her to potty. One or the other so not to confuse her. I am pretty sure that I told you about my we site describing how I was able to successfully potty train my four pups but just in case the link is in my signature. There may be something there that would help. |
