I haven't seen this question on here I have been searching for an answer to this question under general obiedience and training but haven't seen it. Bentley has started something new that is driving me crazy. Whenever we are playing fetch with his ball or another toy, he brings it to me, but jumps up on my legs:yay_jump:. The scratching on my legs is wreaking havoc and it hurts. I have tried to make him sit before I throw the ball but he keeps on doing it. I tell him "Down" or "Sit" but it doesn't seem to be working. Hopefully this is just another one of his phases but it hurts:cry::cry::exclaim: |

Also, keep repeating the down and sit training until he does do it. With enough repetitions and making a game of it, dogs will learn to obey commands because it is fun, rewarding and they want to please. Just keep on training those - he'll get them in time. |
Pixie still does this at times. What I do is I won't pick up the ball and throw it until she sits. |
I taught Dori the difference between "down" and "off". Down means lay down. We use off when she jumps up on someone or gets on furniture without an invite. Treats for correct behavior. |
Hmm...ours do the same thing but it doesn't hurt. If you file their nails after you clip them, they're rounded and don't cause your skin any pain (either that or we have leather skin), I don't know. :) If it's the action you don't like, and not just the pain to your legs...then I would follow Jilly's advice. |
