Yet another potty training ? Martini loves to poop on my carpet. I had a lady suggest that I take a carpet scrap and make that into his own carpeted potty place. Is that a good idea or is that just teaching him to potty on the carpet? Thanks for any advice! At wits end, as we have a fairly new house and I really didn't want my carpets ruined! |
Whow....I would think (and I'm no expert here) that it would be really confusing for the pup to do that. Is there anyway you can keep your pup off the carpet? Maybe confined to a kitchen floor area where there is tile or linoleum? The other idea is to put the pup's pen on top of a piece of linoleum and cover the floor with potty pads till he gets the right idea? That would mean developing a pattern of behavior like... 1. Wake up from sleep/nap - outside to potty or potty on pad in pen. 2. Play time for about 20 min. then outside to potty or potty on pad in pen. 3. Exercise/training for about 20 min. then outside to ... Something like this would be very helpful for your pup. If you can watch him to see when he is potting, then you can adjust the routine to his schedule and get him into a routine so he knows what is expected and when he know that, he will understand that the place to potty is not the carpet. Just a suggestion. Hope you have success. |
Ziva is 4 and still can't resist a newspaper on the floor! (I let her use newspaper on a tray in the garage for rainy days- she refuses to go outside and then just accidents anyway.) We have tiled floors and no throw rugs inside- All rugs are outside the entrance doors.Bathmats are kept on the edge of the tub until needed. I mop the floors with a pink commercial cleaner, they don't seem to be tempted then... |
