Barking when were gone and refusal to potty
 

We have a 5 year old male yorkie. We got him on Easter, so any training he had (or didnt have) is a little foggy.
Our first issue is pottys. He seems to like doing it in the living room lol. We live in a condo so we try to take him for walks but some days a walk just doesnt get to happen those are the days he has accidents in the house. We have a large fenced in patio with a little patch of grass and a tree. He will pee out there but wont poop. We are trying to teach him to go out back for the times he doesnt get a walk (bc were working all day,or its raining, etc). Any advice on this? He will stand outside and stare at us, almost like a battle of wills lol. I will offer him treats if he goes but that doesnt really do much for him.

2nd issue is barking. We went out of town and the hotel kept calling me saying my dog was barking and I needed to come back to stop him from barking. Everytime we got there he wasnt barking. He never barks when were home. I honestly thought the hotel was mistaking me for another guest with a dog. So i tested the theory once we got home. When we came back home I didnt hit the lock on my car (bc it makes that beep sound) and I walked very quietly to the door and didnt touch the door and just listened for a minute.. sure enough Riley was barking like a crazy man, as soon as my key hit the door it immediately stopped! lol I read online this is generally anxiety when their owners leave. So tried moving his crate to our bedroom (his favorite room) and left the tv on for him. He still barks. Any tips for this? My neighbor is quick to report stuff to the association (we share a wall) so Im trying to get it under control.

Do you know anything at all about his background?

As far as the going to the bathroom in the living room have you tried confining him to one area? I started out with Rosie in the bathroom. Then we added the bedroom and bathroom. Eventually, once fully trained, she got full run of the house. Treats, praise, and being consistent is what worked for us.

We would let him roam if it wasn't for the first issues. We first started letting him but we always came home to a huge mess to clean up :-/

I understand. Can you confine him until he is trained? Maybe to one room?

Maybe he is being left too long ???

It's for anytime at all. 5 min walk down the street, 10 minute trip to the store. I'm home 90% of the time with my daughter and him so it's not long periods of time at all.

I actually just had this issue too. I got my yorki 7 months ago sand his over a year.. He won't pee on a pad BUT we started walking him every 2 hrs then 4hrs eventually he stopped peeing everywhere (( 1/2 weeks)) and we hung his harness by the door so now he lets us know by scratching at it.. Also we give him treats after he asks to go out and does his deed because I want him to know he did good for asking..

frequent walks, he eventually started scratching to go pee, it took about a week for him to stop peeing everywhere and I got him at a year and a half so u can break him of this habit.. I walked him every 2 hours then spaced them out more and more now I can leave for 8 hrs and he won't pee not even on his pad lol

Nena used to bark too.
This is what we did.
We did as if we were leaving, closed the door etc.
When she started barking I would go back in and tell her "no".
Then go back out, if she didn't bark for 1 minute I'd praise her.
And everytime we increased the time.
After a while she stopped barking :)
