Walk Schedule My little baby boy Dexter is 6 month old now! :) But we are still having some potty training issues. We are trying to do our best to control it and keep an eye on him. As far as walking goes, we walk him randomly as much as we can. We walk him in the morning right when we wake up, then feed, then walk again. Then in the evening after work (5-5:30 pm), in about hour to an hour and a half after that, and 2 or 3 more times for the rest of the evening. I think he should be on more of a strict schedule than that so we can train him. How many times a day do you walk your little one? |
Yay, Dexter, 6 months! They grow up fast, don't they? What to you mean by more of a strict schedule? My boys are pad and outdoor trained, so they go whenever they need to. I think all small dogs need to go often, so it is good to take him out a lot. Like humans, I think it makes for a healthy bladder and system. |

This is MY experience with My Oscar and what I did... I brought Oscar home @ 11 weeks , He is now 1 yr 8 months. Up until then he was litterbox and pad trained. It was quite a job getting him trained . He was very stubborn about it.. A couple weeks ago I decided to attempt Outside Potty Training . I removed the Litterbox and all the Pads.. I started taking Oscar out first thing after waking in the morning, every 30 minutes, after meals , after naps.. Amazingly within a matter of days Oscar is 100 % outside potty trained.. When we go out to do errands ( usually a couple hours ) Oscar goes in the Kitchen and he " Holds it " the whole time we are gone. |
As a pup, I had Jackson on a strict schedule. By that, I mean, we just had a routine. I was lucky enough to not be working when I brought him home, so it was every 2hours at first. I would bring him out even if I didn't think he had to go. Just in case. I did not want to set him up to fail. At 4 1/2, he's completely reliable. He can honestly hold it for a long time but I don't make him do that very often. The most he's usually left alone is 6 hours, but he's gone 8 hours before during the day and 10-11 hours overnight. But our general routine now is ... - Potty at 8am when I get up for work (poop/pee) - I get off work at 1, come home and he goes pee (we also usually do something at this point -- park, dog park, walk, fetch, etc) so he poops at the park. - He will usually pee again around 4:30/5. - Pee around 8pm - Last potty break around 10-11pm. On lazy rainy days or days I'm off work, it's usually more like - wake up at 10-11am and let him go pee/poop - go out around 3-4 - again between 7-8 - last potty break is after midnight |
It me close to a year to completely train Zoey even though she's let out every couple hours. Now the only time she has "accidents" is when she's mad. That's one of her ways to let you know she's not happy with us. LOL |
we indoor trained her so it took about 5 months but she is pretty near perfect with it (except when she is pissed and runs in her poo and gets it all over her crate). Im not a fan of indoor pee (esp with the allergan content) but my husband is less of a fan of white grass and poop in the yard. I also wont walk her enough, I have four young kids so we are in bed pretty early and Jess and I don't like the cold nights or mornings during winter lol She knows Im not a happy camper when I see that. |
This book is great to help with potty training " How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days " This is the schedule they use http://www.leecharleskelley.com/imag...sebreaking.pdf |
It took Alice a while to be house broken, she's still not fully house broken yet. When I got her at 7 1/2 weeks old, she was potty pad crate trained so I got use to that till she was about 6-7 months. I decided she should be house broken instead, it took Alice over a month to eliminate ! When I saw that she pee'd outside, I hand her a treat. I bring the treat with me just about every where just to reward her on the things she do correct. Alice is semi house broken and indoor as well, she pee indoor middle the night here and there but on her pads. I try to take her out as much I can to avoid her using the pads but she's too quick to having to go. |
