Too young for change? Since we got Ellie she has slept in her ex pen, now that she's a little older (almost 5 mos.) and pee pad trained we thought she would be able to handle leaving the gate open. She's a creature of habit nd knows once I'm brushing my teeth it's time for bed and she usually puts herself in there. Anyway, the 1st night went well but this morning my husband got up to find pee all over the kitchen floor  she hasn't had an accident in weeks! Her pee pads have not been moved and when we were all up she went on her pad? Do you think it's too much too soon? I'm baffled by this. |
I think its a little soon.its a big world for a dog so I wouldn't give her that freedom at night when she is so young, it probably overwhelmed her. Jess is over a year and still sleeps in a large crate with the door closed. I just don't know what she would get into and I have young kids who try as I might leave things on the floor.. |
I think Ellie was probably a little overwhelmed by her freedom, or thought that something was wrong since her normal nighttime routine had been changed. If she's happy in her x-pen at night and there's no reason to let her roam at night, I'd keep her in there. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! :D I keep my Bella in a crate on my nightstand at night, and will probably keep her there for the foreseeable future. There are too many things she could get into if she were left unsupervised at night... |
I have to agree, I think she was out of sorts being out of her routine, I hope she doesn't fuss when I lock her gate again ! Just when I thought she was a big girl...haha |
