this is so frustrating :( i know it's all new to him...he's 2 so it's going to take longer to house break Hunter and it's only been about a week since we've been hardcore at it...but it's exhausting and frustrating :(( he's showing signs of improvement ... he really is. he doesn't take as long outside and he pees and poos almost immediately when u take him out now as opposed to taking FOREVER to poo outside...it's definitely progress but he was left before to just pee in the crate as he would inside of a stupid belly band and now i can't get him to stop peeing in his crate :(( i even decreased his space by putting the divider back in ...he did really well yesterday but then everyone told me since i work and am out of the house for 10 hours at a time he needs access to water all the time so i kept his bowl in the crate with him and i came back to a wet pad in the crate where he'd peed...UGH!!! i am just at a loss |
oh i should clarify he's not going 10 hours in the crate...my dad lets him out at random times throughout the day to go potty |
Potty training was the hardest and 10 hours is a very long time not to drink and not to pee. I know I can't hold it that long and my bladder is much bigger LOL. It is much harder to retrain bad behavior. Could you set him up in the bathroom while you are gone with pee pads in the bathroom and the crate at the doorway so he can rest in the crate but walk into the bathroom to potty? I did this with Buster. Could you come home at lunch, have a friend visit, or a dog walker stop by? Also he might take longer outside because he has been so bored crated up all day he takes longer so he can stay outside. They are so smart too smart sometimes. Best wishes with your Biewer Boy! one person created this set up maybe you could put down a tarp underneath to porotect your carpet. I have carpet but after trying to train and finally training Buster I got a carpet cleaning machine. Maybe you could put grass in like this person. With the pee pads they have a scent to attract them to the pad. You also leave one down that they have peed on to attract them back. i've thought about that...was looking at that isis thing actually that you can buy a floor to protect your carpet and then put the pee pads and stuff down on top of the floor but i was worried he'd jump out of it does the attraction stuff on the pads actualy work to entice them to it? he's not a puppy...he's a 2 year old adult who's never been housebroken to be honest i'd kind of prefer this type of a set up and possibly to get him pee pad trained just because of my schedule it would make life so much easier i wouldn't have to worry about having someone come let him out to pee i just was afraid that too many changes after i've finally got him peeing and pooping on command outside may mess us up even more |
1 Attachment(s) I have a richell pen. It has room for a bed, play area and food and water. it also has a separate area for pee/poo. (not that they dont jump in it if you leave them too long but i found even though they WILL pee in the crate they would PREFER not to..this thing has been a lifesaver for me.. |
also mine is over a year old and I cannot ever leave her alone in a room in the house. She broke a leg and is not allowed to jump anymore. I also have kids who leave stuff on the floor (as much as I try). She gets out ALOT and is walked alot but this has been piece of mind and a safe haven for her...like you I have alot of carpet and peeing on them is not an option.. |

You can get a mesh netting to put over top of pen to prevent climbing out, or buy an extra large dog crate, and put his little crate, food, water, and pee pad inside. Use a rabbit water bottle for water so don't have to worry about spilling water. You can train him to it by putting a little peanut butter on the nipple. I used this set up since I already had the large crate from when my lab had to be crated. |
To protect your carpet you can buy linoleum remants at Home Depot / lowes / menards. I bought some to protect my wood floors while he's in his expen for potty training. They actually had some that looked like wood floors so it worked out. Also, I do have an Isis pen but he quickly learned how to clim out. Luckily my mom had a taller xpen that I now use that he can't climb out of. |

Its been great. It can be made bigger or smaller, up to 5 feet long. As she gets freedom you can leave the potty side open for her to go in. The top is totally wired so she cant jump out (not that knucklehead hasnt hit her head a few times trying) It has been the best thing in the world. I bought a medium size dog crate for my daughters room so she can sleep in there too. It has her bed and a pee pad. Sometimes she holds it all night, sometimes not but she goes on the pad. My house just has too many rooms and stairs so she will never be granted free access. Also, my kids are into littlest pet shops so I cant take the chance she will eat a toy chair or something. In restrospect I probably should have got a larger dog that could manuever the house and 4 kids. but we all fell in love with her so what can you do? You figure it out.. |
