Potty Training with Scary Neighbors We're working on outdoor potty training and for the most part, it's going ok considering Dexter has only been with us for 5 days. One problem we have is when we go outside and the neighbors' dogs are out. There is a lab that is catty corner to us that is friendly but barks when he sees us. Same thing next door. There is a another lab that is quiet until his buddy, a coon hound, gets to barking. All of these big scary barks literally make Dexter run for the hills. I try to avoid going out when I see those dogs out there as I don't want him to be scared of the outdoors but sometimes when you gotta go, you gotta go. Any suggestions to help Dexter ease his fears? |

Is it possible to introduce him to the doggy neighbors in a safe way? Maybe he will see them as pals. I can't think of anything else. |
I'd train him to a peepad indoors, for when the big dogs are out. Always check that they are not running loose before you go outside. |

I know how you feel:) Our neighbours have 4 small dogs and all the years we've lived here they bark everytime I take the dogs out but thankfully my dogs just stare at them like they're crazy lol Maybe when you go out and he starts running just act like nothing is going on or feed him lots of treats when they're barking. I know when Joel gets scared he looks at me for a reaction and I pretend nothing is going on and so he just goes back to normal. :D |
