potty training My 15 month old female yorkie will not poop in the sandbox. Will pee (most of the time) in the sand box, but no poop. She likes throw rugs. Sometimes the tile floor, but she likes the rugs. Tried washing rugs and spraying vinegar on rug... not much help. I heap praise on her when she potties in the sand and she loves it. If we are watching TV, she will go into the utility room and pee in the sand. Then she will jump on the couch with us. She WAITS until I go and check the sand and she will come running as fast as she can when she hears me say she pottied in the sand. She goes wild in excitement with praise, but she still will not poop in the sand. I can take her outside for 20 minutes and she will pee, then when we come in she might poop on a throw rug. I have her smell her poop and say "bad dog" sternly. I don't hit her. She acts like she is VERY SORRY for doing it, if she is close to her cage, she will run and give me those sorrowful eyes, but next day we find another surprise. Any ideas to get her to use the sandbox? Thanks Jackieo |
potty time due to the cold weather i had decided to use the second nature {dog litter box}. i would take him outside and he did fine in the warm weather, but as soon as it got cold all he would do is stand by the door and shake. now he hasn't messed in his crate at night unless i sleep in too late to let him out. he doesn't bark or cry , but will go pee in the litter as soon as i put him down in it. as for number 2 well i guess there isn't enough room for him to walk in circles to find the right spot. it usually ends up on the floor within a foot of the box. he too is excited when i praise him for going potty in the box, when i catch him squatting on the floor i try to sound mad and say no! which usually stops him mid way though, but not usually in time to move to the box. we will keep trying and hopfully he will catch on. i do worry because some people tell me it is the breed and they have a hard time with housebreaking. I hope they are wrong. well good luck and happy holidays ;) |
What is the best litter box to be used? I purchased two small one (at the suggestion of a friend), but it seems like Bailey may want a little more room to smell about. Also which litter is best? I have I think cedar chips, but they are messy and very lightweight. Also, how do I get him to start pooping in the box? Right now, he hasn't at all. I just tried it yesterday and set it up for him because he hated the pee pee pad and used my rugs also. |
I have my baby litterbox trained only I use the dog litterbox but NOT the litter. The litter doesn't work well because the pieces are too big for her tiny paws to stand on - she kind of sunk into it. Besides, she likes to chew on the litter itself too much. Anyway, I have her paper trained first and eventually put the paper in the litterbox (we got it from PetSmart). At the begining, the box was new to her so we had to put her in there when she needs to go. The box was lined with a layer of newspaper on top of an old paper which she had went on before. She pick it up pretty quickly. Unlike using paper alone or peewee pad, she will keep her business in the box. For pooping, she would jump in and out of the box over and over and over before she would take her position in the box. I don't have to worry about her being on the paper but too close to the edge - no more messy floor. It works really well for us. Our baby is 6 months old and house trained. :) I got two toy size (15"x20"x5") Purina secondnature dog litter pan - one upstairs and one downstairs just to make life easier. Our baby is samll - at 4 lbs. If yours is bigger or if you think more space is needed for the "pre-potty dance", they also come in minature (20"x24"x5") and standard sizes (22"x28"x9"). Take your picks but I wouldn't waste my money on the dog litters. Good luck! |
is cat litter OK 1 Attachment(s) I am using "Fine Feline" cat litter in the poop box, is that OK, or is something else better to use? |
