My 2 year old marking in the house, now?? Hello, I have a 2 year old neutered male(he was at 7 months) that uses potty pads and never had a problem with him marking in the house until now. I assume he is marking because it is around chairs and table legs. He just started this a month ago. On walks he will lift his leg on trees but when he pees on his pad he squats. There has been no changes lately so I am really at a loss why he would start to do this now? Thank you! |
I have no answers for you but I fear that this thread may have gotten lost in the shuffle so I'm just going to *BUMP* it up for you. =) |
well its in a yorkie males nature i think....cedric does this as well. we have to watch him like a hawk and when caught marking inside i tell him no marking in mommys house and his belly band goes on. i have not found thus far a successful way to completely stop it other than having him wear a belly band. he thinks he owns everything...hehe. |
I agree Dino wears a belly band because I have given up on controlling his marking. He never marked until we got Mr. Bucket and now he won't stop. Belly bands help with your sanity ;) |
Also I have heard if you neuter them it typically takes away the urge. |

I have bookmarked belly bands from another member here but not sure how it will work since he is in full coat? Thank goodness we have hardwood floors and I have gated off rooms so he is not able to roam as freely. |

When he went on the pads, I reverted to how I trained him, went nuts saying what a good boy in a very high voice and gave him treats. He was on cloud nine, LOL! He really is a great dog and I love him to pieces. He is a mommy's boy but does love his dad. Thanks also for the tip about putting a belly band on him right after being caught! |
Yep, same issue here. Our 2 1/2 year old Harley started marking about 7-8 months ago for no apparent reason. He marks the cats scratching post, chair legs and the legs of our bed. He has absolutely ruined the carpet in our bedroom because of this. He even pees on the siding of the house on our deck:confused: He wears bellybands all the time now. Nothing I have tried helps with this issue. |

We have hardwood floors throughout the house but I still do not want him marking like he has been on my chairs(which are wood also) and one time a coffee table which is iron. It's just plain out baffling why he started doing it now? |
Yep, he has been neutered since 6 months old. It is soo frustrating. It is difficult to keep a bellyband on him at all times because I have 2 other yorkies to look after as well. I know it is a behavioral issue because he is a VERY insecure dog (despite lots of attention and phrase from us). He absolutely hates the bellyband because he thinks that has done something wrong everytime I put in on him, but I dont know of any other way to stop him from doing it. |
I don't have a solution but my neutered male will raise his leg if he is excited or smells that a recent dog has been there as well What I would suggest is clean where he has marked very well with dog eradicating cleaner ..... regular soap cleaners won't take the smell that dogs sense where they have marked also try and catch him in the act ... if you can to correct him |
