I can take my two yorkies out a million times and they'll still pee in the floor with no sense that its wrong. I give lots of positive affirmation if they go outside. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I probably have waited too long to ask this question. I love them so much that I've just dealt with it. I'd really like to change the situation.

Have you tried washable potty pads?

I have Cerise trained on them. I leave it in a bathroom and she only goes when I close the door for privacy. She lets me know she has to go and we walk to the bathroom and I close the door. She will go by herself during the night when we are sleeping. She does not like it outside if it is cold, wet, or too hot ( TX hot cement) for her paws. I do not let her go outside because of too many Mosquitos and flea issues here in Austin. She will go outside when we are out and about but I monitor where because of too many dogs in the city with owners that do not keep them disease free.

Washable potty pads will wash clean but hold a hidden scent only detected by your babies nose and that may keep them using the same spot. I invested in a dozen and put the dirty ones in a stainless steel hamper I bought just for them. It keeps the odor locked in until I have about 4 or 5 to put in the washer then dryer, and I change them every morning. I bought them on Amazon and have been using them for over two years now and they still look almost like new. They have a blue waterproof backing to protect the floor. I also have found that Tide works the best for getting them perfectly clean and odor free for my nose. I normally use Eco cleaning products, but you need the chemicals for this job, lol.

Yorkie's are notorious for being hard to house train. You will have some people that say their furbaby is trained at 6 months or younger and then some that say their furbaby is older and still not 100% trained. The only thing I have to offer is keep it up and use positive reinforcement. You may want to try potty pads like the post above. YOu may also want to try clicker training in addition to positive reinforcement. I know how thrilled you will be when it finally clicks with them where and when to potty. Don't give up eventhough you may want to throw in the towel.

I think doing indoor and outdoor potty training is the way to go. So for whatever reason they can't go outside it won't be a problem. Previous poster had a good idea with the washable potty pads. My pups are both indoor and outdoor users. But I use the disposable potty pads. My pups are 99.8% trained.lol We all have some kind of accidents once in awhile. :D Good luck!

Limit their freedom to where you can supervise -- perhaps one room. Do not increase their freedom until their potty habits improve.

Eliminating the scent in their accident spots is also crucial.

While positive reinforcement is definitely the way to go, you can also give a gentle "uh uh uh" or "oh no" when you catch them going in the house.

How old are they and are they spayed/neutered?

Great answers! Thanks so much. I got pea as a retired breeder dog at age 7 and she was spayed just after adoption. Coco was spayed at 6 months. I had tried natures miracle pads years ago but they hardly used them. Wonder if I should try again. I know I don't want to put the girls in a pen when I'm at work...

Its going to be hard if they have marked around the house. My dog was restricted to the kitchen until she got better. Shes crate restricted now due to a leg injury and on one day a week was letting me know how much she hates it by peeing on the bed. I took her to where she is supposed to potty (I left some of her pee there) and said "good potty" all happy. I then went to her bed where she had peed and showed her and said "no potty bad potty" in lower voice and went back and forth many times. I also reward with treats on good potty, which is a whole other issue that I posted about as it worked a little too well. She hasnt had an accident since. What my friend did was everytime the dog went somewhere other than on his pad or outside she would move his food bowl over the place he had gone. I guess they dont like to pee/poo where they eat so every time he had an accident thats where the food went right on top of it. She had to move it aroudn a few times till It worked..
