Thundershirt ? Does it really work ? I have a 4.5lb 2 yr old yorkiepoo and she barks at everything . We recently got another puppy and she has a hard time with him .. Is the $40 worth it ? By the way she hates wearing any kind of clothing ... That's why I'm debating so much on this purchase. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. The Thundershirt won't magically cure barking, but it could help when used in conjunction with training. It works for some dogs, but not others. What kind of difficulties is your older dog having with the puppy? |
In the morning the puppy wants to play right away she growls and snaps at him because she does not want to play. She growls at him as he eats because she wants his wet food. She also does not want him to sleep anywhere near her. She will play with him and chase him around but only when she wants too. It seems like they are getting along some days and others she growls at him all day and seems very distant from all of us. It's only been 2 weeks so I'm assuming she's still adjusting to all this . |
I use the thundershirt for Pixie. She became extremely afraid of thunder at the age of 5. Now she is also afraid of the sound of rain hitting the house. The thunder shirt helped her a lot. Sometimes that's all she needs to calm down during a storm. If she is really stressed I also have a natural calming medicine the vet gave me. I don't know how effective it would be with barking though. It does have a money back guarantee. |
I know someone who uses the Thunder Shirt for her dogs and it has stopped the constant barking! I have no experience with it. |
What you are saying is really interesting because Princess Sophie growls and barks at our mini Schnauzer (Hansel) in order to try to get him to play! She chases him around and even nips at his heals to try to get his attention. I caught they in the living room (really out of bounds) playing together very nicely last night and I was stunned. Guess they needed some private time. LOL Now today she's back to growling and barking at him. Poor Hansel, she's got a multiple personality sometimes I think! LOL |
I've read that it helps with anxiety, not barking. Some say it works on the same principal as swaddling an infant, by making them feel confined and safe. Originally it was made for dogs that got anxious in electrical storms, and some say that a tight shirt keeps the body hair from rising, which can be uncomfortable. I really believe that training helps with barking. Teresa Ford wrote this thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...h-barking.html and it really helped with Joey. Some things like coins in a can or mechanical bark repellent worked quickly, but then stopped working. The training has taken time, but after a month of consistent training, I saw real results. |
Thanks everyone :) I will read that thread . I have tried the bark collars, vibration collars, compressed air etc.... She still continues to bark if the front doors open , windows, or even if someone comes to the door. |
