Need advice

My little Yorkie male is 10 months old and has been pee pad trained for about 6 weeks. He has always gone to his pad to pee and poop. We were at our beach condo for a week and he used the pee pads there. We are now back home and he is peeping and pooping on the carpets. What is going on???? Please help.

Nancy1999 01-06-2013 04:16 PM

Sounds to me he want to go back to the beach! Seriously, I have no idea, do you have him fixed, sometimes they will "mark" if they aren't fixed, but I don't know why he's pooping on the carpets. Were there no carpets at the beach condo? Maybe he thinks the whole carpet is his pee pad?

concretegurl 01-06-2013 04:18 PM

Regression, territorial marking, could be any number of things.

Get back to a routine of potty training and fast.

Use white vinegar to clean carpets and floors to remove potty spot scent right away.

Chodges 01-06-2013 04:25 PM

Yes he has been neutered. He has never marked. Yes the condo has carpet.
We have hardwood and carpet in our home. Very strange as he has been doing great for the last 6 weeks! This is the third time since we have had him that we have gone to the beach, however, this is the first time that we have returned home and he is now peeing on carpet and pooping. HELP.

What about Nature's Miracle? That is what I have always used. Thanks for your quick reply.

I wonder if the dog lmind gets confused with pee pads and carpet. My Yorkies were trained on pee pads. We have tile on our floor. Now they will pee on any rugs I put down or on their blanket once in awhile. I get upset when they do that. They have a doggie dog to the yard but once in awhile they will go on the rug. So frustrating. What goes on in that dog mind. I really think JoJo gets mad when I leave him and he just pees out of spite.

It was much harder to train Joey on the carpet than on the hardware floors.

To the OP, you might have to go back to crate training for a short time.

Natures Miracle really works great, I've tried vinegar, and it is good on wood and tile, but for carpet and materials, you need something that will totally get rid of the protein in urine. The enzymes in Nature’s Miracle which are bacteria "eat" the protein in urine. The only bad thing is it's slow, you can't hurry the process.

Oh good to know, I going to have to try it now.
We have a white cream carpet do you know if it's safe not to stain?

Our dogs are fully trained...but Elvis looses bladder when having a seizure from time to time and ever since Princess' spay first thing getting up she leaks a bit sometimes.

Chodges 01-07-2013 04:15 AM

Thanks for the advice. It just seems strange that he has used pee pads and also will go outside without any accidents since he was 7 months old. Well, I guess we are back to crate training to see if we get back on track.

Yeah, I even use it on my linen sofa, never a line of demarcation. Joey’s trained too, but my grand dogs visit and they are all males, sometimes there’s a little competition over whose house it is.

So sorry about Elvis, I wonder if Princess is okay, or if the surgeon made a mistake? Oh nevermind, I just read that it can be caused by "decreases in the the production of estrogen".

Is there any chance he could have gotten a bladder infection, people are always saying rule out medical problems first if there is a change in behavior.

Yes, but Princess also had a spay abortion so the risks were increased.
There are meds for it but they have risks too and it only happens at most once a month so I'd just rather clean it, Its not a full loss of bladder just a little leakage usually drops on her way to the door to ask to go out or on her bed when she first wakes up.

Oh poor little thing, so glad she found a home that's understanding to these types of matters.

Well I adopted her as a pup, I adopted her with a life long commitment.

Princess went into heat the same day I went into labor with baby Marek almost 2 years ago.
Her spay had been postponed too long due to my pregnancy and Elvis has some so many medical issues I'm not getting him neutered until he's more stable if ever...
entirely my fault (still amazed at how Elvis went commando to get to her) I was playing with fire having both an unaltered male & female at the same time, and unfortunately the worse happened, but I tried to do the most responsible choice in the end.

Having a litter was not an option for many reasons.
OP sorry sometimes threads go a bit off topic, but its all in the spirit of sharing and education.

Oh, this will make a great story for those members who ask if bellybands and diapers prevent pregnancy and promise never to leave them alone. I love that sentence, "Elvis went commando to get to her." Lol, I can just picture it, crawling on his belly under furniture and overcoming all obstacles to reach his fair maiden! :D

Elvis has severe arthritis, somedays he can't get up to our low sofa (well before we got his neds right) he was in a baby gate system that makes a big octagon and is 3a feet tall,

Elvis cleared the pen in a single leap (checked dvr fortage later) he then jumped over a coffee table he had never been able to reach before, jumped over 2 more baby gate barriees between the kitchen dining and kitchen hall...

made it down to the back of the house....still not sure how he got the bedroom door open but to be fair we have those cheapo hallow faux wood grain doors and frames that if not shut properly can pop open if pushed...still he had to have been scratching and pushing...then crawled into the soft sided pen Princess was in by separating the floor from the sides...that is after he jumped 3 feet as her pen was also surrounded by an octagon and baby gate system...

I was at the store about a week after leaving the hospital I think it was, I came home abd went to check Princess and Elvis was sitting in the pen with her panting so hard!

Yeah he went full on and did all of it in less than 30 minutes!
I about fell over seeing him with her.

It was quite a shock, but while at the Vet later a dog was being treating for deep cuts after having broken through a window to get to a female in heat...

OMG, that's amazing, I knew that they were persistent, but this makes me believe that they really don't have much of a choice in the matter.

Try to grab a urine sample....sudden unusual potty habits are often UTI or bladder infections.
