Tricks! Any suggestions on some tricks I can teach Zachary? He can dance in circles on his hind legs....picked that up in about 10 minutes. I have not had time to teach my dogs tricks in so many years but now that I am home all the time, I can. Any suggestions and how to do it?? Louise and Zachary |
Can he high 5? Fetch? (I'm guessing if he's dancing, he can huh) |
I found a few sites that can help with some of the tricks Fun Dog Training - Ten Easy Dog Tricks Dog Tricks! Shake, Crawl, Beg, Wave, Kiss, Roll Over, Take a Bow, and more! |
I think mine was born knowing how to beg. lol |
There is even how to open a door. Not that a yorkie can but could you just imagine....dog would hit the refrigerator all the time ;). I am not sure what tricks he knows I am guessing he knows the basics. I love the one where he can identify all their toys. Give each toy a name. Play with the toy keep using the toy name, tug or pink whatever you call it. Hold it saw want tug. Touch tug. If he touches it give him a treat. Throw the toy(tug) Say go get tug. If he responds to the name and goes gets it give him a treat. He will start to know all his toys by name and be able to pull that toy out of all the rest. Continue to do with rest of toys. Any one else plays with him should know the names of toys too Good luck |
Tricks Bilbo knows bang, give me five, give me ten, the Dallas Cowboys dance(twirling around in circles on his hind legs), speak. He also knows elephant (his favorite toy), frisbee, ball, and toy (which is any other toy). I'm working on teaching him to pray and to weave in and out of my legs. Of course he knows all the basic commands: sit, stay, come, down, etc. He will also go to the entertainment center and show us when he wants a treat. He knows the difference between his toys and our granddaughter's toys, and won't touch hers, although he really wants to. Most of the tricks didn't take more than a week to teach him. My husband taught him speak while I was out of town overnight. We reinforce them every night at treat time. |
I think the "stay" or "sit/stay" command is very important to teach, and they catch on quickly bc they learn they get a treat for doing absolutely nothing. LOL. Make sure you don't have them stay and them call them to you for the reward. You should tell them to sit/stay and walk away and then come back and give them the treat. Stay also works as "freeze" for us too. Also "leave it" for when they pick up something they should have. Leave it or drop it. Very important to teach this one. If they have something in their mouth, there's no way you can catch up to a dog running with a no no in its mouth. |
