Where should I start with Obedience Training? I have a 11 week old pup, named Toby and I plan on getting him to obedience classes once he gets all his shots done.. But I kind of want to start teaching him a bunch of things. He already kind of knows how to fetch and drop the ball. I think he knows how to sit already but he only does it when I put the treat in front of him, not when I say SIT. Also, how do I teach him his name? I try calling him.... once in a while he would respond.. but most of the time he just ignores me. PLEASE HELP ME! :( A new yorkie mum here!:idontknow:idontknow |
i suggest lots of practice. His name should be the easiest thing for him to learn since you use it everyday :) When you see him say hi toby! (really exaggerate his name ) and when he looks at you give him a treat. or if hes playing say his name and if he looks at you another treat! the more you say his name to him he will start to understand that looking at you is what you want and that toby is his name. For everything else. Repetition is key. Keep your training sessions short and 1 or 2 times a day, since puppies have a very short attention span, (you can always make the sessions longer as he get older and pays attention more) And always make it fun to learn! if he does something you like you can throw his favorite toy or give him treats (whatever motivates him the most) and when your ready to learn new things while your waiting to have his shots done Youtube will be your best training friend. There are tons of how to train your puppy to do this or that videos. you just search for it in the search bar.The videos are a great reference and there are any different methods for teaching things you want. many of the people on YT are excellent at training their babies so feel free to post if you have specific questions. Yorkies are great little learners that love to please. So have fun! we cant ait to see Little toby's new tricks. |
We brought Morgan home at 12 weeks and we started training 2 weeks later |
I played hide and go seek with Dori. I hide ( in obvious place, but out of sight). I cheerfully call her name . She runs to find me and gets an enthusiastic "good, Dori" AND a small treat. Repeat as needed. She never tires of this "game." |
