Do any of you have any opinions on the potty training puppy apartment? Basically it's a crate that has a separator with a little doorway in it that lets your puppy go from the sleeping area to an area with puppy pads to potty. I plan on training my puppy to use puppy pads permanently because I live in an apartment and it will be easier. Do you think it would aid in the training process? Or is it a waste of money? I think it would also help for when I had to leave for an hour or two and had to leave the puppy at home. |
I saw that when I got Riley but was afraid be would play in the PeePee part.... I got an x-pen and set up his bed and play area on one size an put a purine second nature doggie litter box on the other side. Instead of litter I used PeePee pads. He as has full run of my pace since he was about 8-months old and I now have a rascal/big squirt in the corner of a room if he uses if he Has to go. I didnt get the grass and i took the grid out and just use peepee pads. I also got a diaper genie for the used pads so there is no smell in my pace. I flush the no. 2s. He also goes outside. I crate-trained Tibbe in a crate with his papers or potty pads at one end, bed, food and water at the other. He's totally clean in the house unless he is ill with a GI problem. He's had maybe a total of 6 accidents in this house total since I got him in May, 2008, and that includes when I was in the hospital for 2 days/nights and my son couldn't spend the night with him so when his potty pads he left down were used, he moved over to the floor beside. If you do start with a pen, I would get one that starts out smaller so you have to cover less floor space with the pads and then, as the dog learns to go on them, you can expand the size of it for more exercise space and the dog hopefully won't go on the exposed flooring. Hello and WELCOME to YT:)! I have the PTPA... I love it so far. We got it in this week for our new baby Kalisi Hope. I decided to go ahead and get it when I noticed that even when she was out of her Crate playing (which is quite often) she would run to her crate to use the potty pad that was inside. Which was great for me because as of yet to my knowledge lol:rolleyes: she hasn't went anywhere else in the house. But the problem I had was that since it had no divider for her bed and blankets, I was having to wash them daily as she had a tendency to drag them from one end of the crate to the next lol regardless of the pad. So she still has a pad out in a holder on the floor, but during the day we leave the doors on the PTPA open for her. Hope that helps in some way. It's just my opinion on my experience with it :D. What is the goal ...to always have the dog go inside the PTPA to potty? Take it with you when you travel or visit people? It seems like a xpen has more space, so there is further distance between the potty area & the bed area...would you want to sleep right next to your toilet? |
