HELP!! my 5 month parti yorkie shows NO signs of needing to pee He poos on his pad but pees EVERYWHERE. once in a while he'll pee on the pad, but for the most part, he pees everywhere, but the pad. i have a play pen set up, bed on one side, pee pads on the other. he also lifts his leg, so he's peeing up against the fence, his bed, his blanket, everywhere but the pad. on a lucky day, he'll pee on the pad. when he does, i praise him like crazy and shove tons of treats in his mouth. i keep him on a strict feeding schedule. when he pees correctly, i let him out of his play pen to play for about 20 min. the better he is, the longer i give him play time. one day he'll be good. one day he'll be extremely bad. what am i doing wrong???!!!! i've had him for almost a month now and he doesn't seem to 'get it' oh - and more so lately, he's giving absolutely NO signs of needing to pee. he's standing still and will stare in my eyes as he pees. and by that time, i realize, he JUST peed! i sit by his play pen and keep a close eye on him for hours. dogs sniff and circle or pace around if they need to do their business right? mine shows zero sign. what's wrong with my pup???? |
Hi and Welcome to YT! I think he may need to see the vet to rule out a Urinary Tract Infection, if you haven't done that yet. |
hi! ive been on this forum/site numerous times before and during my pups arrival to my family. i've had yorkies in the past and they werent nearly as hard as this little guy i have now. i dont think he has a urine problem (althogh i will check this weekend when i see the vet). he was peeing completely normal before. i have to admit, i made a huge mistake by changing his routine numerous times since i've had him. i know dogs like consistency.. it took me a while to find the balance for my dog and i. the first week i had him, i noticed he lifts his legs to pee. so i hung pee pads on the fence to prevent him from peeing outside of the pen. i realized i need to properly train him, so i tore down the pads. he still peed on the fence, but standing on the pads. when i saw him lift his leg, i'd clap or make a loud noise to distract him (and place him on the pad to pee properly). this was somewhat confusing because he is in fact, still standing on the pad peeing; half of his pee outside the fence, half of his pee, on the pad. i realize, i made this confusing for myself and my pup. so i made the pen bigger and now the pads are away from the fence so i can see if he's really trying to pee on the pad, or on the fence. then, i brought two of my friends puppies home (because they're 100% potty trained) and in hopes my pup would mimic them. but instead, he peed EVERYWHERE including on their bed! now that im on my last switched up routine, he seems to be peeing everywhere. it seems as though every other day, he will pee on the pad, and the other days, pee everyhwere else. what worries me is, he gives absolutely no signs. no sniffing, no squatting, nothing. he will just stand there and pee.. i feel like its my fault for not being consistent, and now that i am trying to stick to one method, he's just not giving any signs... |
Lifting a leg is normal for a male pup... he may be 'marking his territory' at this point, I am withholding some advice bc the medical has to be ruled out first, bc if it is a medical problem, all my advice would be given in vain and useless, lol. As he is lifting a leg, sometimes setting a large 2 litre bottle filled with water or sand in the middle of the pad may help by giving him something to pee against. Mentally, he may be upset that you brought two pups in the house (just guessing) if that is the case, giving him extra attention in the form of hugs and cuddles may help to calm him down. My old male will start peeing everywhere if he feels lacking in the attention department, like he's trying to remind me 'I live here too!'. Peeing on their stuff (or what they think is their stuff) tells other dogs who owns what, so maybe he is trying to communicate this to you. By giving him more attention, he should see that you 'got' his message and should stop peeing everywhere. |
