Roll Over?
 
Any tips for teaching roll over? Im trying to teach Joel but he's not catching on. It's harder bc he doesn't ever roll over on his own for me to say it so I have to do it for him and he just acts like "Mom! What the heck are you doing to me!"lol so any tips would be helpful:)

I have two methods for Yorkies, and you will think I'm crazy...haha, so

#1. Take a treat and have Joel 'Lay" or 'Down'. Put the treat in front of his nose and kind of steer him with it. Once he goes past the half way point, start praising him.

#2. If he doesn't get it with #1, you lay on the floor and slowly roll over, saying it the whole time. Some dogs learn by watching/seeing.

Can the big dog roll over?

Thanks, #2 makes sense bc Joel is good at even copying noises I make, so i'll definetly try that, and no Rosco cant and probably won't roll over, lol

Haha! If you teach him to talk, he won't need to learn to roll over!:D

I got Scoobets to roll over by starting with sit then lay down and doing them in that order then gently showing him by rubbing his belly and rolling him over.

It took a lot of work to get him from his belly fully over he'd roll to the same side, we progressed from eight to left thwn left to right but even now if just asked he goes eight to left because we did it that way for so long I guess.

Scoobers really got stuck on fron laying down to on his back and going back to the way he started not fully over so I gave HUGE praise rubs and treats slowly he got it.

Treats in the direction helped held in front if his nose

All commands I give are accompanied by hand signals.
literally sit stay up roll over dance every trick or command has a hand signal...its just cool to show people but I had a behaviorist who worked with her own deaf dog and I found hand signals aid so much in training!

The roll over signal is a fist in a circle motion.I held treats in my hand he followed the scent.

I think my kids got into the training because they had to learn these super cool doggy sign language so it worked.

Thanks, I also automaticly have hand signals for all the tricks and Joel knows the signals and bc Rosco doesnt hear good so it works for him too:)
