Old Markings We have had a Yorkie and a Cairn in the past and both have since passed and we are looking to get another Yorkie. We are trying to decide on a male or female, but have the following question: We have not replaced our carpets and will the "old markings" remain and prove a problem for potty training a male or female. The marking are probably at least three or more years old. Ther parpets have been cleaned many times since, but will the marking remain in the pad, etc? Will it be easier with a female or a male to housebreak given the circumstanced outlined above? Thanks Frank |
It is more common for a male to mark than a female but some females do mark too. They can mark because of a scent because My chachi who does not mark at home will mark at a petsmart or vet. I got chachi neutered at 6 mos and as I said he only marks outside or some place like petsmart. If you have cleaned the carpets several times I think you willbe okay |
Yes, the smell of urine, etc will make it harder to housetrain; I'm not going to lie. We moved into a house that had a prior dog that had peed everywhere and it was really hard to housetrain on those carpets. I took them out and put in hardwood floors. New carpet might be the solution if you prefer carpet but you will probably need padding as well. |
