Furious biting and growling/barking. Hello everyone! My 5 months Yorkie is starting to bite me out of the blue. I understand when he's playing, but sometimes, he does bites so hard that it makes me bleed. I have no idea why he does this. One moment, he's cuddling and wagging his tail. However, the next moment, he's biting and barking furiously at me. I've tried scolding him gently but firmly and by tapping his nose gently, but it doesn't work. He takes this opportunity to jump at me and bite me. There are no dogs around to influence him to do this. I am so confused. Please help, I am tired of this behavior! |
If he is only 5 months old I cannt imagine him being angry,it is possible thought. I do have a poodle that will be playing and then suddenly he becomes a bit agressive. Ive just learned to redirect him. When he is chasing one of the other dogs I can tell when he is getting overly excited and will remind him "Skittles we are playing" but he is 10 yrs old and gets it. I hope someone with a bit more experience will come along and be of more help. |
I think 'tapping' his nose will aggravate him more than anything. I would try 'growling' at him (imitate his real Momma), or put him in a time-out area away by himself for a few minutes when he misbehaves. When he is behaving, tell him 'Good Boy' and give him praise and treats. Also some basic obedience training may help. If these suggestions don't help at all, I would have a vet evaluate him. |
It is not usual for a 5 month old puppy to draw blood. This shows lack of bite inhibition. You may need the help of a good trainer. Gary R. Sampson DMV is a well know behavior specialist. He may still practice in Indianapolis. His book may help you too. Dog Dilemmas Simple Solutions to everyday Problems by Gary R. Sampson. Also start the Nothing In Life Is Free training |
