Help with my 13 week old
 

Hello everyone,

I just joined this forum because I could really use some advice with my 13 week old yorkie named Thumper.

My girlfriend and I have had him since he was 8 1/2 weeks and he is a very loving dog with people and other dogs. He loves my girlfriend and I but we have just been having some issues.

1. Whenever we would like him to come over to cuddle or lie with us he only wants to get up and move away to do his own thing.

2. Whenever want want to pet him he automatically goes to gnaw a our fingers, I try not to associate it with playing or wrestling but no matter what his first instinct seems to be to gnaw at us. I understand he is teething but that doesn't "feel" like the problem. A simple light pet on the back turns into an undesirable experience. He seems to only want to be pet when he is tired.

3. I understand he is in the juvenile stage but he never comes to us for petting or affection...


I am the dominant one or "pack leader" but I am not aggressive or punishing, I only want to give him affection and love but he is unresponsive.

Does he think he is dominant or pack leader?

Any tips or advice would really be helpful. Thank you.

If you have the time. Puppy kindergarten will help with training and socialization of the pup. And show you how train the pup. If he's a good eater. Use his food for something. Make him do something for it. Never free. All depends on the dog. Which a good trainer will help alot. Takes time with pups and can be stressful. You want to take the time now so you can have a good pup later. Not a high strung,nervous wreak. I've always put my dogs in obedience. I find these classes teach the human how to teach the dog. I can do it at home now. Because when I take a new pup they already know everything. I just do it for socialization. Good luck. JMO/JME

He is a puppy....this is puppy behavior....it is normal....enroll him in puppy obedience class and go with him...good training for everyone!
