Re-training I have 2 yorkies, boy and a girl - 5y and 4y respectively. Tobie is pretty mucn potty trained to on a pad or outside. Ella however, I believe she thinks she's still a puppy and potty training since I brough her home 4 yrs ago has been hit/miss. She uses the pads inside sometimes, sometimes NOT, and goes outside. She knows right/wrong - she knows when she's done something wrong, but it continues. My boyfriend was suggesting that we try a doggie litter box. Has anyone every tried one of these "after the fact" with success and any other suggestions you have would be great. My boyfriend moved in with us about a month ago and I know although they love him to pieces, they are still adjusting to him disciplining now too. |
To me a pee pad and litter box is the same. If she was missing it then it maybe an improvement. But if she's going in a different ..dunno?? But I would try it. Never know. She may like it better. Worth the investment to me. If you don't want to spend the $$ make one with a box and pee pad and see how she responds?? $50 for something she won't use can be frustrating also. |
Emy will use the pee pads if they are in a magnetic holder, which is magnetic on four sides, but perfectly flat, its like the peepad is laying directly on the floor, except she can't drag it around..She pees on these really good, but won't poop on them, poops on the floor. I tried buying one of those doggie litter boxes, but they come with the artificial plastic grass, and the first think Emy did was try to chew all the plastic grass that was sticking up, so I couldn't use it cause I didn't want her injesting any little plastic green particles. I wanted to see if she would poop on this and pee on the peepads....so I had to send it back. I'm still trying to figure out what I can do for pooping before winter sets in...cause I'm not going to go outside when its below freezing with her or in the snow...guess I'll just have to keep scrubbing the kitchen floor...LOL...I do pick her up in midstream of a poop and put her on the peepad, but she just stops pooping...she also travels while she poops...frustrating...she likes to leave a trail of poop as she goes...I would have to have my whole kitchen lined I guess....for her to leave her poopies on it....I give her a treat when she pees on the peepad, its worked so far..... |
