Is Chloe tricking me or is there a problem?? Hi all - Chloe is doing really well! We're getting better every day with potty training and better every night with staying in her kennel without crying.. She has learned that if she rings the bell she gets to go outside....and usually she just wants to lay out...she doesn't have to potty lol :p However, here is my delimma: I give her a treat every time she goes potty outside. Well in her kennel there's a pee pad on one side so that if there is an emergency she can go there - which she has learned to do instead of going on the carpet. I noticed the other day Chloe would start squatting, but not peeing and come over to me for a treat...of course I thought this was hilarous and told her she had to actually potty to get the treat. Well now she'll squat, pee, get a treat....and five minutes later squat and pee again so she can get another treat. Is she making herself pee so she can get a treat? Or is there an issue that's more serious?? Chloe goes to the vet on Friday for her second round of boosters...so I'll ask, but I just wanted your opinion! Other than the peeing, she is acting normal. Thanks!! |
She is probably ok based upon my experience. They are really clever and will easily figure most things out especially when it comes to treats. My Jamie often makes a tiny tiny wee wee on her pad and looks at me for her treat. Also the other day she was in the park with my husband and didn't want to walk. So he assumed she was tired and was carrying her. Then she saw the guy who brings the dogs treat and she ran as fast as she could to catch him. Everyone in the park was laughing at what a phoney she was. But it is always good to ask your vet. |
Ok - that makes me feel a little better...I just get so worried..I don't want anything to happen to her. She is super smart though! |
When Dolly was a puppy she did this all the time to get a treat. You are so right they are so sharp and so smart. |

And the trainer in my puppy class said that when you reward with treats for potty training, you're supposed to give treats sporadically (like a treat once every 3 or 4 potties...not a set treat schedule that they can figure out) just so they don't expect a treat each time they squat. Of course you should still praise them with love and enthusiasm when they potty correctly! |
Miss Priss is almost 11 months and will still fake pee just to get a treat. They are so smart. |
they r very smart! lol sounds like shes got it down pat on how to obtain some extra treats. hehe. |
These little guys are just TOO smart aren't they!?!?!? Of all the dogs I have ever had, and I have 6 now, Zachary is the smartest. They know how to "work you" don't they...ROFL!! Louise :aimeeyork:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:aimeeyork |
