jumping at my legs while walking..... Emy has now started to jump at my legs and growl while we're TRYING to walk.....I don't know how to stop this, she is on a harness and I end up lifting her up and away from my legs or just stopping and saying NO..but as soon as I start to walk again she turns inward toward my legs and starts to jump at them...driving me nuts...!!! Any suggestions...:( |
Oh you could use one of those pliant plastic fly swatters or anything like one of those flexible cat toys with a feather at the end or just your hand to put in the way of her front feet every time she tries it, together with an "uh oh" and keep walking. Or, every time she does it, stop walking and just stand there. This bores the heck out of most dogs as they are eager to get on and see what's up the street. Whatever you do, do it over and over and over every time she jumps up. Gentle, consistent and unangry repetition of just constantly not letting her get her feet on you will teach her she can't get do it over time. Most people give up on their dogs too soon and don't keep disagreeing with the unwanted behavior so even if you have to block those feet 101 times, do it with a smile, knowing each time is closer to getting through to her. When she does walk a ways without jumping up, praise her with a cheerful "Good walkies!" as you keep walking. If the praise causes her to try to jump up, don't repeat that! |
