Remote training for Potty training
 
Hi,

Has anyone potty trained/ house broken their dog with one of these remote trainers?

Dog Remote Training - Remote Training Collars and Electronic Dog Training Collars from Petco.com


If so how exactly does it work?

imo , those would not work for housetraining and especially not for yorkies. The collar/reciever is way to big/heavy for a tiny yorkie neck..

you do realize those send a SHOCK to your dog ????? Training a yorkie just takes alot of time and consistency NOT a electric shock:eek:

Thanks. I didn't think about the size of the collar. I assumed they came in different sizes.

I didn't realize all of them actually shock. I thought some made a noise. Thanks for you input. :)

Hi, I thought this site was for people to ask questions, learn, get advice etc. I didn't realize it was for people to bully others. It was not necessary for you to be so cruel. I'm asking to learn not to get a tongue lashing. BTW I'm very very deserving of my dog and I treat my little fur baby like a queen. Please try not to be so judgmental when someone (that you don't even know) ask a simple question. :eek:We all learn by asking questions and research.

With that being said, thanks for your "opinion" about this method being "Illogical, imoral and uneffective".:thumbup: Your last two sentences I could have done with out. :thumbdown

yes, this is a great place to ask questions and learn.
i am glad you found us.
it is good to ask questions.
we all learn something new everyday .

yes, most of collars are electric but they do make some that use vibration and spray.

like i said before i dont think the collar would be a method you would use for housetraining.
the way is just to take puppy out every hour and always right after napping and eating or drinking.
take her to the same spot each time. Say go potty, if she does tell her good potty and give her a treat.
it just takes lots of practice.
eventually she will get it..

Did you read ALL the descriptions, several are tone driven and the one for lap dogs is. But for those that are it is hard to tell since the descriptions are words like "correction signals", different levels of stimulation" I did not see one of the collars described as a shock collar, very smart of the OP to ask, better safe than sorry.

While you are most likely referring to people that train with shock, not the OP, don't you see how as a new member with not much experience on YT might feel that you were talking about her as a What #$%& would even try to house break like this? Not someone who should have a pet! While I know you mean well it's a shame you get so carried away with your beliefs that you can't comment without hurting the feelings or pizzing off someone that did not deserve it.

I feel bullied my responses are being commented on.

While not polite,as I dont feel it should be on this topic, as long as I dont break rule which is a mods job to decide if it inappropriate.

I gave my opinion on the topic.

My opinion is based on a general statement not specific to or involving name calling to the op.

Also refer to my usertitle...its threads like this that earned it.

BTW whis to say the OP isnt against these collars and didnt make thia thread q to prove to someone at home their point...its all how you read it.

We dont all agree hense the value of these threads being open to opinions.
I ts probably obvious I feel shock collars being used for training is pure and simple animal cruelty.

I have vibration only collars I bought to proce a point I assure everyone a simple vibration is enough...howeven even a vibration only collar being specified would still result in my precious post response.

I just potty train mine the old-fashioned way and they are totally clean in the house. I didn't need anything that shocked or sprayed or made noises or anything. Just keep them on a good, regular schedule and confine them when you can't watch them and they housebreak just fine. With a Yorkie, though, I keep up the training for a full year before they are allowed full run of the house without my watching them like a hawk.

The link provided clearly shows sound & vibration collars in the small dog (yorkie) size. I don't think this is any worse than those on here that advocate spraying water right in a dog's face as a correction method. And isn't clicker training all about sound training....and again, plenty of advocates for that here on YT.

Anyone that knows Trish personally (as a few of use here on YT do) and have been welcomed into her home and seen first hand her interact with Nali and the luxury in which her pup lives wouldn't ever question her ownership of any dog....or should I now say dogs??? As she's recently welcomed another yorkie into her home :)

Trish, I'm so looking forward to meeting Barbie tomorrow in person...and giving sweet Nali a snuggle too :D
