Behavioral problem - Halti?? Has anyone here used a Halti head collar on a yorkie? And why then, to stop pulling or to help stop a behavioral problem? Fido has one behavioral problem and I'm thinking of trying Halti, check if it helps. He launches at certain dogs (black dogs, big ones, also dogs like border collies) because he has had dogs (rottweiler and border collies) coming launching at him when he was younger. Suddenly this problem became bigger and now I'm afraid he might get into a fight, there are so many loose dogs in my neighborhood, I have to deal with his issue but I'm not sure how. When he does this he starts by watching them and barking, then if he gets close to them he launches at them, it's so hard to stop him and to get him to focus at me not the other dog, he stops for a moment if he gets a contact with me. Do you think halti would help me? If you have any ideas, please answer :) Thanks ! |
I tried one on Tinkerbell when she was into chasing cars... it worked but she finally flat-out refused to walk with it on... she does not like me having that much control over her. I started walking her with my other larger dog, Finnie, who now corrects Tinkerbell's bad behavior. |
Ok thanks :) I'm going to try the halti I hope it will work! |
The harness type not head collar. I would be afraid they could hurt their neck with the head collar type. |
I used the 'head' type... in addition to having her Buddy Belt on at the same time. I'm not aware that there are two kinds. There was only one when I bought it. |
ETA: I just looked them up... I did try a no-pull harness that attached to the chest and/or the back... I can't recall the brand name though. It didn't work either. Finnie tells Tink in 'dog' to 'cut the crap out' and she goes into a down position immediately. I was shocked the first time it happened... and then happy! I tried toys and all types of food... she red zones on vehicles, bad. |
Thanks for the answers. Yeah , this becomes a red zone when Fido does this :( I can't break him out of that zone , so a head collar that gives me more control I think will help a little bit, I can't wait to give it a try. |
Let us know what works... and good luck. |
