Nibblet is Neeeeevvvvvvvver Ever Gonna Get Potty-Trained, Is she? :-( UGH! I take her out. She pees/poops like a boss. She comes indoors, and pees/poops on the carpet. I'm keeping the carpet cleaning solution people in business. Depending upon how you hit it, my carpet is the cleanest one in the neighborhood between all the shampooing! I took down her x-pen a week or so ago, and got her a crate for downstairs, so that when I can't watch her, she's in there. I thought I could give her the run of the house, but I guess not. Nibblet HATES her x-pen with a Purple and Orange Passion, and I get The Yorkie Stare of DOOM (and much barking). She doesn't do that in her crate, but it's nowhere near as big as her x-pen. Amazingly though, she doesn't bark in her crate. She's just a year old. Am I ever going to get her potty trained? |
How long is it from the time you come back into the house till she has an accident? 10-15 minutes? Time it so you'll know and does she give any signals that she is going to potty? Walk her, give her a treat when she does right , come back in the house, watch her like a hawk or wait 5 minutes and take her right back out and continue her walk till she goes again. Then praise her and give her another treat when she potties a second time. Some pups/dogs aren't relaxed enough to do a complete elimination outside, so when they come back into the house, they relax bc they're home! Yay! Ut oh... gotta finish my potty! I know PIB but make coming back in and going back out part of her walk, eventually she'll do the complete job the first time, it just takes time and patience. |
I had an owner that wailed to me about her stubborn little girl with the same exact problem you are having....she adored the baby and continued to pick up after her, and I told her to just continue to be diligent, patient, and persistant...stick to the plan, continue with the frequent walks, etc and just like with her Sophie, on day, it was like Sophie looked up at her and said, "OK, you win....I will do it right from now on....", and she HAS!!! It DID take her a little over a year.....but then the light came on in that adorable little stubborn head and WHAM! she seldom has an accident ever!. Hang in there with her! |
