Heff is a tinkling bandit! Our new puppy Heff is having some tinkle issues and I need to know if this is normal? I am new to Yorkie raising, I have had chihuaua's for years. When we take him outside to do his business, he is pretty good about going considering he is only 10 weeks old. My question is: He pees outside and doesn't go very much and I praise him and bring him back in and within 5 or 10 minutes he is peeing in the house, again a small amount of pee. It seems he pees often, I guess what I am asking is: Is this normal, or could their be a problem with his bladder or kidneys? |
Could be a UTI or marking. Have you used a harness on him and leashed him to you to correct him every time? Might need vet to do a swab. |
Tinkle problem I am taking him to the vet today for his shots so I will mention it to him:) I havent used the harness yet, I thought I would wait until he is 12 weeks to start that. He has had so many changes, new home, new rules, I guess I am giving him a little adjusment time. It could be marking, I have a 11 year old female also. Any suggestions on correcting the marking if the vet gives him a clean bill of health? |
How old was he when you got him? He shouldn't have left his mama until a minimum of 12age weeks. |
If it is not a UTI, he's so young he's probably just excited outside & not taking long enough to empty himself fully, wanting to hurry & explore, play, etc. I'd leave him outside longer to see if in 5 or 10 minutes after his first tinkle, he goes again out there as he does in the house or if he's so excited by the great outdoors, he just plays or explores. Whatever he does, you will have to watch him when he comes back inside (as you would anyway when housebreaking a puppy) & be prepared to swoop him up & go back outside ASAP when he starts to squat again. Watch for what behavior he shows right before he tinkles so you will know what to look for to indicate he's about to pee & whisk him right out. With time, he should be less taken with the outdoors & take enough time to fully empty his bladder. |
He went to the vet yesterday and got a clean bill of health! yay Heff! I guess he is just young! I have trained 2 prior to this and not had this situation, but I guess they are all different! I realize now that he should have stayed with the mom longer, but the breeder I got him from had him away from his mother at 8 weeks and I got him at 9 weeks. Please don't preach on that fact it is already done! :D Thanks for the info, I will keep you posted on our progress! lol |
Thank you Jeannie, I know Patience, Patience, Patience!:thumbs_up |
