Age to start training? At what age can I effectively teach my puppy some basic commands, ie. Sit? I understand that it probably varies quite a bit depending on the dog itself, but generally speaking. |
I would start teaching the dog to heel, sit etc. right from the start :) |
Start as soon as your puppy comes home. At first keep sessions short and be sure that they are fun and filled with positive reinforcement. Puppies are like sponges - they soak up lessons quickly. |
Right away, I have video of Joel doing some tricks when I first got him @ 7weeks. He learned really quick, but his attention span was like 30 seconds lol |
I second the "right away" school of thought. Jaeger eats dry food 2x a day, so I train him while I am hand feeding him. It keeps things short but consistent, and often |
I'd start as soon as you get the puppy. Just remember, their attention spans are extremely short. As another poster stated, its good to use food at meal time to train. Also, I think it helps to bond to feed outta your hand. |
Oh no! I've wasted a week! Thanks everybody for the advice. |
