Ex pen for my new puppy? Hi everyone, iv just ordered an ex pen for my new 10 week old baby Buddy! Has anyone had any experience with this? I teach in a primary school from 9 - 2.40 so i plan to put Buddy in the pen during this time. I am also hoping this will help with his toilet training, as we are having some problems trying to get him to go in one particular area. my kitchen is rather big so i felt that gettin this pen might help and he might go in one spot? Has anyone any advice on the ex pen? Dee:dogsm3: |
Xpens are great to keep baby out of trouble:) I would have someone come over mid day to play with baby though. |
I come home to him every lunch time from half twelve to one! he is very happy to see me coming in the door! hoping the ex pen will work |
I think that is smart to get the x-pen and give him a little section of the kitchen. Good luck and the most important advice I can give is patience and persistence:) |
Just a bit of a warning...we set up an x-pen for Luma and left her in there while I was at work...she learned how to climb out of it in just DAYS. We tried putting a shower curtain over the sides so she couldn't use the bars as a foothold, and she chewed it up and still climbed out. We returned the x-pen at petsmart and they gave us store credit, so we bought a crate instead, and she learned how to open that too. So now we have to use locks on it or she'll hit the handle until it opens. LOL she is too smart! Hoping your baby will do better in an ex-pen than Luma did...lol :) |
Oh God, i didnt think of that......he could get hurt trying to climb over it! Just felt that he was getting confused as to where he should go potty and play as kitchen is big. Should I cancel the order? they havent charged my account yet? |

We only did that for a couple of weeks, then confined him to the kitchen instead....unfortunately he learnt how to open the kitchen door, by bouncing up and down and catching the handle... So then we put a little bolt on 'this side'....that eventually thwarted him, until he got free run of the house - and he's as happy as can be with that arrangement! :D Quote:

Which kind of exercise pen did you order? There are some high quality metal pens but unless you have a top on the pen there is always the chance of escape.....or at least an escape attempt. There was a person that came to YT a few months ago whose pup got hung up on the pen during an escape attempt. Are you using puppy pads? Sometimes buying a liquid house training aid and putting it on the puppy pad will help the pup to realize that is the place to go potty. Dogs are all about scent. If they smell the right odor it will make them want to potty in that place. I know some pads say they have the scent on them but I don't think they are helpful. |
I had read somewhere that if you put a sheet on top the baby won`t try to escape, as it sees that is no escape route. Is that true? |

Yeah, we tried the sheet thing. Didnt work for us either, but then again luma IS an advanced escape artist. |
