Help! Potty training an older Yorkie. Hello, I am a new mommy to little Izzie. Although my question is about my moms 2 1/2 year old male Yorkie. She should have worked harder with training him when he was a puppy, but she didn't. So now I'm stuck looking after a dog that lifts his leg on everything and has pooped outside only a few times in his lifetime. She has an automatic feeder for him that always keeps food in it and he eats when he wants. Therefore there is no schedule for his going. Please if anyone has any techniques or tips I can use on him PLEASE help. I am SOOOO tired of cleaning up after him (because she doesn't even do that). I don't want my new baby doing as he has and smelling his messes and thinking it's okay. Oh and she won't allow me to crate train him. Thanks! (If you need additional info please don't hesitate to ask!) :) |
Hi and Welcome to YT! I would start by putting a Belly Band on his to stop his marking... or at least control it a bit. Then, I would start training him the same way one trains a puppy. A schedule would make it easier. It can be done. Here's a list of threads to read: housetraining - Google Search |
