Chewing Kobi, my 1 1/2 yr old Yorkie, is chewing up my house ! He has always wanted to chew some, but now he chews my baseboards, rugs, carpet, bed skirts and everything he can find. I have bought the spray and he has a lot of chew toys and a nyla bone. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks !:aimeeyork |
Have you tried bully sticks? |
No. Not familiar with them. |
You can do a search on them. There is a lot of information available. I get mine at Best Bully Sticks. Sid loves them but he needs supervised or he'd chew them all day. Have you had his teeth checked to see if there is an irritation of some kind that makes him want to chew so much? Is he bored? |
I will check in to getting the bully sticks. I think I have spoiled him. He wants to play just about all the time, and when I don't pay him any attention is when he does his damage. He is bored..and I have been told he needs a buddy to play with, but my husband would NEVER agree to another dog in the house. |

My yorkie LOVES bully sticks!! He never chews up anything other than his toys. However. . his toys get thrashed. We call him our little pirranha! He thinks every toy is meant to be chewed apart. I have a hard time finding a toy that he doesnt chew apart. I try to explain to him that not ALL toys are meant to be chew toys!! Silly dog! |
If he's bored a walk or other form of exerecise, chasing a ball in a safe area, etc. would sure help. Do you have a dog park in your area? |
I have a newly acquired baseboard chewer in my house (thankfully, it seems to be limited to that). All the baseboards in my mud room are completely ruined since his favorite time to do it is when we are at work...and I've stopped with putting Tabasco sauce on them as then he'll just start chewing beside it. Ugh. The two of my boys go through bully sticks like crazy, but I refuse to leave them with a bully stick unattended. They can devour one of those in a short amount of time, and I've watched dogs choke on them in the past. I've left him with Nylabones (since they don't turn into little nubs) and antlers...the antlers being the bigger hit with Mr. Chewer. It hasn't stopped his chewing unfortunately, but I'm hoping that it's minimized it a bit? Bully sticks while you're around and antlers while you're not is a definitely great start! |
Purchase bitter apple spray online or at pet stores, and spray it onto the area of the rug that your Yorkie has been chewing. There are doggy balls with hollow sections inside where you can stuff peanut butter or cheese and let the Yorkie have a wonderful time trying to get to it. |
year and a half...? I was hoping my Emy at 7 months would get better..she chews everything up also..I'm always taking one of her toys away from her and clipping off the threads that she has pulled and pulled....she has chewed on our kitchen table legs, we just bought it at beginning of year....now has chew marks on each leg...I have bought her every toy under the sun it seems like..she loves bully sticks...I only give one to her when I absolutely have to get some work done in my office..then I take it away from her...I keep it in the refrigerator when she doesn't have it in a baggie, and I rinse it off under sink before I give it to her...they are gross, but she loves it, she gets it torn up pretty fast, so I have to watch her...I take her for walks, she always has my attention...she demands it seems like....but there are times that I just have to do something else...that doesn't involve her..like laundry, shower, bathroom break...she is gated in the kitchen. I also bought her a treadwheel, that I keep in the kitchen...I make her go on it once a day for a treat, otherwise she just drags her toys into it..but doesn't walk on it on her own...very demanding breed....love her though.. |
get lotsa bones, toys that crinkle not just squeak sounds bored. |
I would start the day with a vigorous walk/jog and make him tired, and if he doesn't act tired do it longer, lol A tired dog is a good dog. When Joel gets in his crazy moods or keeps bugging me, lol I jog him, come back home and he'll plop somewhere:) |
My dog did the same thing and there are times when I see her still doing it. I either read somewhere or was told to rub a man deoderant stick on what they chew' |
My neighbor coated the spot with powdered red pepper that stopped his dog from chewing the carpet. That was almost a month ago and his dog merry is great at not chewing now. :) carpet stairs |
