Help? Scratching walls! So my little Winnie has started scratching our walls right through the paint to the plaster. She only does this at a certain time, when either DH or I have gotten up in the morning taken her outside and one of us is in the shower while the other one is still in bed. At this point she's done her business and had her breakfast she just wants attentions. She has PLENTY of toys to play with and chew on, so many they are all over the living room, its like theres a real baby in here! We've noticed two holes in the wall in our hallway already. I'm guessing she's doing this with her nails and not her teeth, though i've never seen her do it and i cant imagine why she would eat the walls. Any idea how to stop her from doing this? |
Chase used to do this when he was a puppy too. He would dig at the wall, then try to use his teeth to scrape it off too. It was when he wanted attention, and we were busy eating dinner or sleeping. I tried spraying them with the bitter spray, but he didn't seem to mind the taste and it didn't help. We would give him a bully stick when we were eating dinner, so he wasn't bored, and that helped. He stopped doing it when we brought his brother home though ;) |
hmm I might have to try the bitter spray see if that helps. Getting another puppy just isn't an option since we are in an apartment and I think the cat would hate me hahah I hope she grows out of this! :animal36:animal36 |

During this time, which is usually only about half an hour or so, she does have the run of the apartment. She is fully potty trained so i'm not worried about her messing up anything. At night she sleeps in her crate with the door closed in our bedroom, and MOST of the time when this happens is a time she would normally just go back and lay in her crate. Thats as close to me as she can be, she cant get onto the bed as its one of those really high beds (even I have a hard time getting into sometimes) on occasion i do put her on the bed but then she just wants to play and doesnt let anyone sleep, or she will fight with the cat who is very possessive of the bed. Should i put her back in her crate and close the door to it? |
Just want to add she's 8 months old and NEVER has done this before. |

Put her in an xpen when not supervised, in due time she will forget about chewing/scratching the wall. If you can't do this than spray it with bitter cherry spray that they have at Walmart, I find it works better than the Bitter Apple spray. |
