I need help!!! Been having a hard time potty training Bella...once upon a time she was going on her pad everyday, now she had completely stopped and pooping all over the house. So this morning I decided to turn my laundry room into her little space. I dont know if its best to continue to train on the pad OR outside. She knows it's wrong for her to poop and pee on the floor because when she does it she runs and hide under the bed. When I put her in the laundry room wit the gate up she just bark bark bark because she is so use to running around the house. I put her toys, bed and food and water and potty pads in the laundry room and it has light and there. So she has everything she need. Should I keep the potty pads in the laundry room with her? (because I do work). Should I take her outside every two hours even with the potty pads in the room? (Will this confuse her) OR, Should I just continue to pad train her? Thanks for all your answers in Advance...Oh and she is 5 months old. I had her since she was a spring chicken (LOL) and I been trying to train her since I brought her home and NO luck. I had her since she was 2 months. |
Restricting her freedom when you can't supervise closely is a very good idea. Do this until she is 100% potty trained. Be consistent with whatever method you choose. If you want to continue using pads, always have them available to her. If you are gone more than 4-5 hours a day, I recommend pads. It is better for their bladders and overall health not to hold it for 8 hours or more. My boys have pads available 24 hours a day and we walk twice a day. They know not to potty in other people's homes or inside public buildings. It is doable to train doggies this way. Use keywords like "go potty" or "no potty" to let her know. When she goes in the right place on the pad or outdoors, praise her profusely! Never stop giving praise. My guys are 2 and 3 years old and we still throw parties with Woohoos! Good boy! We still give a kibble or some small treat intermittently too. Try to anticipate the need to potty. Dogs will often go when they first wake up, after naps, after meals, after playtime or anything that is exciting. Hope this helps. :) |
Thank you!!..I use to keep her crated and she was using the pad well...but when I let her run around thats when things got all out of wack... |
I'm no expert what so ever just from trial and error. If she is only 5 months old, I would not give her a lot of free roam until she is completely potty train. I have my 2 pad trained cause I work and they will go outside when I take them before and after work. She can be trained so don't give up. Keep her in a small area with the pad, only let her out of area when you are able to be right with her. I always praise mine even now when they use the potty pad. It want take long but it want happen over night. |
