Luma's 1st Trick! So we have accomplished our first trick...on accident! We have been trying to teach Luma the "sit" command as her first trick, going off of what multiple books say to do: -Hold a treat at end of nose -Move treat over his head -When he sits, click and say "Yes!" -give treat However..Luma is NOT havin' it! She freaks out over treats since we do not give them to her often, maybe she's too young to learn commands yet? She's 15 weeks. :( But she DOES know one trick..:D Since the day I first saw her, when I held her she licked me on the lippies. Now, all I have to say is "kiss" and she'll do it. Before I would make puckering noises and she'd get it, now just the word "kiss" works! That's kinda a trick...right? Any tips on how to make her learn the sit command? And what tricks do y'alls babies know? |
Mine know the "kiss" word too. I think it is a trick!;):D I say go give your daddy kisses!! And they lick him all over! :p See how smart they are. :D:D Sorry mine don't "sit" on command. So no advice there! |
UPDATE!!! Luma did the Sit command many times today!!!! She had just woken up from a nap so she wasn't hyper yet, I used some liver treats and a clicker and she just did it over and over and over! I'm soooo happy lol :) She sometimes confused sit for "down" and would just go all the way down but that's better than nothing! Now she's too hyper to keep going, but just wanted to share our progress. Gonna try to record a video of it soon. |
Miss Priss knows kisses, sit, here Prissy, off/leave it and roll over...yes I do bribe her but it works.LOL Oh but the potty training is still a work in progress. |
How did you teach roll over?? |

Now if it would click with her potty training...:( |
Yay for Luma, I knew you could do it... |
I've tried the motion, but Luma just moves with it, she won't flip over  However, shes also learned to "drop it" if shes eating something bad, or while playing fetch, after bringing it back she will let go so we can play again. |
They are like sponges right now and are very smart. I love it.. |
Congratulations on kisses on sit! That's awesome for a 15-week-old! Be sure not to reward her if she gives you a down instead of a sit. Either wait until she pops back up into a sit, or reset with a stand and try again. |

1 Attachment(s) Don't you just love these smart little fur-babies. The first trick Christabel learned was kisses. But I had to change this to sugar. My son goes to the Univ. of Alabama and lives in Tuscaloosa. The first weekend he came to meet Christabel, I was showing him how she knew how to give kisses. Well every time I would say kisses she would look at him (if I was holding her) or go to him. I believe she thinks his name is kisses. She is 6 months old now and when I say kisses to her she'll run to him. I only get kisses from her if I say give me sugar. Attachment 366888 |

Thanks. They are crazy about each other. |
To teach Optimus to Roll Over we started with sit, and then down. Then I literally just rolled him over with my hands while saying "Roll Over!" and then I'd give him a treat. After two or three days of this (with 1 training session a day probably 5-10 minutes each) he just started doing it. At 15 weeks Luma is definitely old enough to learn all kinds of tricks. The key for Optimus was doing it when he was tired. When he is alll wired and crazy he couldn't focus for beans! He can sit, down, roll over, shake, speak, go to bed (hop in his dog bed) and turn a circle on his hind legs. Does he do it 100% of the time? Heck no, he does it about 75% of the time -- or whenever he feels like it. When he realizes I'm just bossing him and I don't have treats then the jig is up and he just walks away. So stubborn! |

So, I am having a hard time teaching Sheldon the roll over command. He sits, then he lays down and when I go to roll him over he freaks out. What else can I do. Sheldon knows the sit, lay, stay, shake, beg, spin and goes to bed command but we are stuck with those and would like to do more. Any ideas? |
