Very aggressive after neutering Levi, who is almost 3 has become very aggressive towards our male english bulldog. Levi has always thought he is a Rottie. He saved my life from a bull mastiff that attacked me...anyway, I have had Levi since he was 3 months old. He was neutered about 2 months ago, which significantly improved the markings, but he has attacked the bulldog several times, and for no apparent reason, mainly his ears, and the last couple of time, the bulldog has fought back. Levi would fight to the end. It is very hard to pull him off the bd. I'm very concerned about his behavior. Can anyone give me some insight on why this is happening and how I can help Levi "chill out" :confused::confused::confused: |
Beyond the neutering has anything else changed in the home? Has your bulldog been ill at all? Obviously you are going to need to stop this behaviour. How have you been discipling Levi for his bad behaviour? Do you do time outs? Crate or xpen. Do you also use voice commands? I always ask about exercise; a tired dog is usually a well behaved dog. Are they both getting regular walks at least 30 minutes of exercise a day? Also it is always a good idea to re-inforce his obedience commands. You can follow the Nothing in Life is free guide to dog training. Most simply put the dog works for every treat and even in the beginning their regular meals. Dog does either sit/down/come/stay/heel what-ever are the commands he knows. Also this is a good time to work more on trick training as well. In the meantime. I would crate and rotate for both your dogs health , until you get Levi's behaviour under control. |
Thank you for your advice. Levi does get time out on his "pillow" My husband usually does the diciplining because he breaks them up. As for exercise, we don't take scheduled walks, but Levi loves playing outside, running along the fence as we have dogs on both sides of us and behind us. He will stay outside all day long if we let him. I will read the Nothing in life. Thanks again for your advice. :animal36 |
My dog Courage, who is around 4 or 5 years old, was just neutered this year and has been exhibiting some aggression as well. It's been almost a month since he was fixed, and I have just started taking him back to the local dog park. He is usually fine with the other dogs, and normally just runs around the park sniffing all the scents. This is when he gets most of his exercise, but I will take him for half-hour to hour walks on other days when we don't go to the park. He seems to get most aggressive after he has been playing there for a while, so I thought maybe it was because he was getting tired. We were getting ready to leave anyway and when he started snarling at a black lab (male) I grabbed him and leashed him and took him out. It seems to happen mostly with other males, and has happened a few times before he was neutered. But, as I said, he generally gets along well with other dogs. Every once in a while he just finds some poor beast he doesn't like and nothing will deter him from snarling and going after him! Could it be hormones or some other behavior I don't understand? |
I have a dog trainer that specializes in behavior that is coming to our house next week. The attacks on our bulldog are getting to be 2-3 times a day. Hopefully she can shed some light on this problem. I will keep you updated. |

Did you get any good advice from the trainer? My yorkie is about 1 1/2 yrs old and he's starting to get aggressive mainly towards our neighbors' dog. They have played a few times together and have been fine, but within the last month or so if the other dog is outside he'll bark nonstop at him from the window. And I was outside with him the other day talking with the neighbors and he got in the other dog's face and would not stop barking even after I picked him up. Any input would be great, thanks! |
