My Yorkie won't get off my Bed!
 

I got a Yorkie 3 days ago and it's been a beautiful experience however I have a problem. He loves my bed, he plays on it, he sleeps on it but, when he wakes up at 5AM he starts running around it and obviously wakes me up, he chews my blanket and gets really close to me, which makes me feel quite uncomfortable when he is so active. Actually as I was writing this post in my bed I had to put him on his crate because he started licking my arm, getting on my laptop and when I said NO! he kinda started biting me. I don't know what to do, he is a maniac during the morning :(

It seems like he does a lot on your bed. At least he hasn't peed on it yet!!!!! :thumbup:

My ZoE is like this is in morning. She wakes up full of energy & ready to go. She used to try this around 4am. I would just tell her to lay down. If she tried to play around I'd tell her "No! Lay down!" When she would lay down, I'd tell her good girl. She now sleeps in until about 6am....that's her breakfast & morning potty time and it doesn't change even on the weekends :eek: She will, however, go back to bed after and snuggle for another hour or so.

Lol thatz funny!!! I have 2 and they sleep with me because my husband works night shift but when they see me sleeping they dont bother me till i wake up :) they play with each other or goto sleep too but they know Not to wake up mommy :)

Should I put him in the crate and let him cry it out and sleep?

The thing is that I can't stop him, how won't stop. How can I teach him to sleep and hang out in his own bed instead of mine?

I have 5 that sleep with me...they all do real well in the mornings, and wont so much as move until I swing my legs off the side of the bed....but 2 of them wake up around 4am and will position themselves near my head, and just sit there and stare at me....intently!....never make a sound...but if I open my eyes, it's ON!!! Kisses galore, so glad mom is awake, start a new day, lets hit the floor running! VOCALS!! VOCALS!!! GOOD MORNING KISSES!! RUNNING AND JUMPING AND BURROWING INTO THE COVERS HEAD FIRST! TUMMIES UP FOR A GOOD MORNING SCRATCH!!!

My Romeo sleeps on my bed as well and will NOT get up until I do. It's crazy because I am up at 4am on weekdays and will sleep "late" on weekends. He adjusts his wake up time to my schedule.

Tink sleeps news in bed with me, too. She does pretty good in the morning. Most days she waits until I start stirring and then she just comes in for a kiss and cuddles.

As with having skin children you can't expect them to automatically have the same wake up time as you. Georgie gets up with my husband at 4:30 am sometimes and then comes back and sleeps even after I wake up. Georgie has and always will sleep with us just what we prefer and he seems to like it too:) Yorkies are truly the closest to skin kids of any breed IMO. Georgie has prepared me for motherhood for sure. As far as biting if your Yorkie is a puppy thats normal just say No and keep it moving. My Dad used to say how we needed to be more stern with him when he was biting as a puppy or he will always do it. While I appreciated the advice Georgie is 6 now and doesn't bite anything but his toys while he is playing. Again just give it time.

Absolutely, Miles was like that when I first got him. They need to learn to sleep in that crate each night. Part of house training as they will hold it until morning. Only time he slept on my bed was when he got neutered so I could monitor him, especially the first night when he was in a little bit of pain. He peed on my bed at the at the end of the week. Didn't pee where he was going to sleep but peed where I sleep. I said 'OK, Miles I think you are feeling better now' and put him BACK in his crate which is next to my bed. He actually didn't do too badly, he whimpered for a minute and I said NO and he settled down. A lot easier to get him back in there than I thought after 4 days on my bed. Thank goodness for matteress covers lol!!!

Just be pation, u said hes only been 3 days in your home. When he bothers u with a Firm voice tell him NO!!! And put ur hand on hes chest kinda pushing him back but not hard remember their lil babys or just put ur hand in the middle of u and him.. But if the problem is that u want him to use hes bed insted of yours, do Not put him on your bed, if hes a baby im pretty sure he cant climb by it self on there lol put him on his and evntually if he dont have no where togo to sleep he will go to hes bed :D good luck with ur new baby!

Oh Lordy! This post is cracking me up!!!:lol tearsI didn't realize how many furbabies sleep with their mommies! Mine sleeps with me also but I quit saying it out loud because so many people discourage it and say "You let you dog sleep in your bed?" LOL! I love having mine dig around for a bit to find her spot, then gives a big sigh and falls to sleep.:D

My Yorkie and my Chihuahua sleep with my husband and I. They look forward to going to bed and also look forward to getting up. Eventually your new baby will settle down into a routine. My Yorkie used to bite when she was a puppy and I just kept repeating "NO bite, kisses". Now anytime she starts to get even a "little" rough and we say that to her, she starts kissing us. Believe me.............it's worth putting up with everything you are going through now because Yorkies are an absolute JOY!!!! :hearts-xx

When Charlie got super hyper in bed was when my bf was over and laying in bed too. It was too exciting for him and he would fly all over and also bite. He neve did this to me alone. Him being this hyper was unsafe though as he could had easily fell off the bed so when he got crazy he went into the crate beside my bed and we ignored him. Same when he bit and wouldn't stop when told no. He quickly grew out of the biting stage. It literally only lasted a mnth or so if that. On one or two occassions I shook a can of coins and said no bite. It scared him and he stopped.

The same w/ his barking. He was barking at others seeking attention and wanting them to play. It took one or two times of them shaking the can hard and saying no bark and he has stopped that behavior. Again, he does not bark at me so it wasn't something I could break him of just sitting at home alone.

Is your pup potty trained? I would only allow Charlie on my bed while I watched TV at night after I knew he just went potty. Then when I slept he went in his crate. In the morning after he went potty I allowing him in bed w/ me but he had to stay right beside my stomach. He would try to crawl up to my pillow and I would grab him and put him back next to my stomach. Gradually I let him go up on my pillow.

He peed on my bed 3 times. Once as a little puppy when we were just playing. Once just right in front of me for no reason. The third time at the end of the bed at night. These were spread out. After that third time I said sorry back to the crate you go until I get puppy steps so you can get down and potty on your own. I immediately ordered steps and he hasn't had any issues since. He never is in his crate at night. He gets off the bed and goes to the other room where his pad is, pottys, and comes back to bed. I remember reading about other yorkies that did this when I first got Charlie and wondered how on Earth I could teach him that. He naturally did it because he knows where his designated potty area is. The good thing is if I want to sleep in I can. He doesn't bug me. I've even heard him get down in the middle of the night to potty and come back to bed. Just some ideas on his progression for you. He is 6 mnths old.

A funny this is remember how I said I forced him to sleep only by my stomach then allowed him on my pillow when he was small in the mornings? Now guess where he sleeps in the am. At night he might sleep behind me etc but in the morning he is beside my head on my pillow or makes me open the blankets so he can snuggle next to my stomach/chest. :p
