crying yorkie and barking problems Hello, I have 3 yorkies Holly, Ruby and Lily who are all adorable. I have a problem with Ruby who is approaching 3 years old and who like the others is spayed. My main problem is that although i work from home and never leave my dogs unattended, Ruby will cry and whine even if i just go down stairs for a moment. I have tried leaving her for 5, 10 mins etc but she gets herself worked up into such a state that i end up feeling guilty. I have tried putting her in a vari kennel so she feels safe but that does not work and i have even purchased a thundershirt which is supposed to help with anxiety but has no real effect. Any ideas would be very welcome. Thankyou |

You say you work from home and never leave the dogs unattended. It sounds like your baby is not used to being without you. You are on the right track by practicing leaving the room . GET A GATE AND PUT IT UP TO THE DOORWAY. LEAVE THE ROOM FOR A SECOND AND STEP BACK IN . THEN THE NEXT TIME JUST FOR A MINUTE , AS SOON AS SHE IS QUIET STEP BACK IN AND TELL HER GOOD GIRL AND GIVE HER A TREAT. JUST KEEPING PRACTICING THIS . EVENTUALLY SHE WILL LEARN THAT WHEN YOU LEAVE THE ROOM YOU ARE COMING BACK.. HOPE THIS HELPS |
ruby crying Hello - thankyou for the reply. I do have a baby gate which I use but she just cries and cries for seemingly no reason, she is not hungry or bored and she is not in pain - it is so frustrating to see her so anxious all the time - it is as if she cant relax, my other two yorkies are very laid back and are happy to sleep all day. I would love her to be able to relax too. |

If only they could talk and tell us what is bothering them. Do they get outside to play ? Maybe she just some excess energy she needs to burn off. If the other two are comfortable staying alone for a bit try taking her out for a walk just the two of you a couple times a day. Keep in touch and let me know how she is doing... Good luck |
thankyou so much for your advice - i will start taking her for a walk on her own as well as with the other two. She has always been very energetic so maybe an extra walk would be the answer. I will let you know if there is any improvement:) |
Try Music When our pups are used to us being mostly at home they are also comforted by the sound of music, T V, noise in the home. We shut everything off, leave and they sense our absence by the changes, the quiet. Perhaps if you leave the TV running, mine like Soundscapes music on cable, that will be enough soothing comfort. |
