Pad training help please!! Please!! OK so last night I put my pooch in her crate along with a old t-shirt of mines and she was quiet and DID NOT POOP OR PEE in the crate. I got up every hour and thirty to take her out the crate and put her on her pad and she did her business. Ok my question is alot of people say letting the puppy run around your place is a no no when trying to potty train. So do I keep her in her crate and take her out like I do at night? Or only put her in the crate when I'm not able to watch her? She goes on the pad when I say "Go Potty" and I stand and watch her but if I don't watch her she go where ever she pleases. I been trying to train her for a month and a no success...she is 3 months old..and yes I praise her and give her treats everytime she goes on the pad...PLEASE HELP!!! |
OH , I WOULD NOT KEEP HER IN HER CRATE 24/7. YOU KNOW WHAT WORKS REALLY WELL, IS AN X-PEN. THEY ARE NOT TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE. YOU CAN SET IT UP IN YOUR LIVING ROOM. ON ONE SIDE PUT HER POTTY PAD AND ON THE OTHER A LITTLE BED A TOY AND HER FOOD AND WATER DISH. YOU CAN KEEP HER THERE WHEN YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO WATCH HER AND IT IS A GOOD PLACE TO KEEP HER WHEN YOU HAVE TO GO OUT. I AM ALSO IN THE PROCESS OF POTTY TRAINING MY 6 MONTH OLD YORKIE. HE UNFORTUNATELY DOES NOT LIKE THE PADS AT ALL SO I PURCHASED A LITTER BOX FOR HIM . WE ARE STILL WORKING ON IT, LOL !..... RASCAL DOG LITTER BOX COMPANY, L L C HOME PAGE |
Thank you so much Oscar...I'm home with her today because i didnt have to work and she and I been downstairs all morning. I did have to run some errands so i put her in her crate while I was away. She has peed and pooped on her pad but ONLY because I put her there...I just be glad when she learns to go there by herself...UGH!! |

My oscar is quite a stubborn little cuss. Just takes time and patients. Don't worry your little girl will get there. |
i have just had the same issue. when i put luna on the pad she would pee there. if i didnt she would pee anywhere including here bed. then at the start of the week, after 5 weeks, she seems to have finally got the hang of it. only one mistake all week so far. |
I agree, Im not a fan of the crate all day.. or even at night , a expen with a bed toys and food at one end and the pee pads on the other... she will pee on her pads.. after she pees let her out, leave the expen open and keep putting her on the pad and give her a big treat when she pees...she will get the hang of it.. puppies need lots of excersize and play time.. I think an expen is your best bet. You can sometimes find them on Craigslist under baby items (play yard).. I got mine for 10 bucks.. ;) |
I agree with not crating up. I use the laundry room and put a gate up at night. She has a cage in there with the door on it opened all the time and her Ugodog. I take the gate down in the morning so she can go in there to potty during the day. So she just goes to the bathroom when she needs to. It's super easy, but she caught on really quick I think. She is 19 weeks old and has been almost 100% potty trained for a while. |

Hmmm I never though about the laundry room...Good Idea...Thanks Thing is I put her on the pad and say GO POTTY she will do it. She understands GO Potty mean pee and poop. I also have a gate up when i'm gone or cant watch and take it down when I can watch her, even if she has access to the pad she still goes on the floor..I dont know maybe because she still a baby it takes a while... |
Also when I first started putting her in the laundry room, I gated part of it off where when she stepped out of her cage her potty pad was right there and her food bowls were right past that . She had no room for error then I gradually started giving her more room until she had the whole laundry room. Now she even knows to go back to it when she needs to potty. When I first got her I would put her down on the pad in the small gated area till she pottied then let her back out after she went. It has really worked out good. |
