New Mommy :aimeeyork I just added a sweet little girl to my family. Her name is Priscilla and she is just six weeks old. She is so special and I love her. HOWEVER, I need assistance as to how to get this off to a great start so that she will grow to be a sweet young lady!!! Since she is so small, I have not brought her outside. I am wondering what is the best approach to potty train her. She has been going somewhat on the paper (the breeder had it that way so I just did the same) However, she hasn't been wanting to go there all the time. She's had many accidents! I have a crate...should I use it? Is she too small/young? I appreciate any advice!! THANKS!!! :) |
pup She is too young to be away from her dam and litter, let alone worrying about training right now. I would concentrate on keeping her well fed, warm and stress free. Get a pen, not a crate and keep her off carpets. Let her play on washable flooring. Make plenty of time for rest/naps. Her bladder is so tiny at this stage she is going to need to pee every 1 to 2 hrs..make sure she has food at night also...especially if she is tiny. Good luck |
Aww Be patient with her and very careful...She is still very young. I am very suprised the breeder let her go so early. Is she eating ok? At this point I wouldnt be suprised if she doesnt just go when ever her bladder lets it go even if you are holding her. Please if you have any concerns about her or questions ask, ask ask...There are so many experience breeders and yorkie owners here...Just have to ask. Good Luck with the new little one! |
Priscilla Thank you VERY much. She is young and is doing surprisingly doing great! She has been eating and drinking very well. Today she ate all day and went poo twice, she went pee on the paper most of the time too. She visited the vet yesterday and he was very impressed with her at her age as well. How do you think I should best handle her when she isn't on the floor? She has a corner in the kitchen with her food and water and pee pad/paper. Normally she eats and drinks when she goes to the bathroom. What should I do in between? She is a good little sleeper and loves to snuggle on my neck. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I just love her so much! |
