Help with leash training I know I need to teach my two to walk nicely on a leash. They are ages 3 & 2. Up to this point they have taken me for walks--bad I know. I've recently started to try to leash train them. I've read all about the freeze where you are when they pull and don't move until the leash is slack, and to have a good exercise session before we walk. However, my problem is they really need a good walk for exercise, but right now we aren't getting to move but a step or two before they pull, then try again more pulling, it doesn't give them much of a walk. I know if I just walk them with them pulling for the exercise they won't learn not to pull. What's the answer--no walks except training walks?? If so what to do about their need to get a lot of exercise? I know these are dumb questions, but please bear with me, I really need the advice. Also, should I be taking them one at a time? Thanks for any help! Cathy |
I would start with training them one at a time. Your dogs have to focus their attention on you, otherwise training will be very difficult. Maybe other members here can share their experiences with you on what works and doesn't for them. Daisy is a wreck on a leash or harness, Tessa gets it. Maybe because Daisy's a maltese  |
