transitioning from pee-pads to outside? I have read a few other threads but didn't see one similar to my situation. I got Sampson a little over a month ago. He is doing great with the pads and rarely has accidents. He is 5 months old and weighs about 6lbs. I would like to start training him to go outside but i am not sure how to make the transition. I let him out in my backyard to explore and he goes potty sometimes, he doesn't hold back on walks either... i will be walking down the street with him and all of the sudden he is pooping on the sidewalk lol. I would like to eliminate the pads all together and get a dog door his size (i also have a Siberian Husky that uses an extra large sized dog door he cant use) so he can go outside whenever he needs to go like my Husky does. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks for reading. |
I would take him out frequently and give him a treat immediately after elimination. The transition will take time and the key here is persistence. Accidents will occur unless you can watch him like a hawk. It also helps to potty train him on command. That's what my girls do. Initially they are indoor potty trained (and they still are) however they understand the word "potty" and will do their business outdoors if needed. It takes practice and I'm sure you'll find a method that works best for your Sampson. Good luck. |
